Just pulled the instrument cluster. The bulbs dont appear to be blown like I was thinking None of the dashlights work and never have since we have owned the car, aside from the two turn indicators, they both work fine. What should I look for? Also where can I get another of those lil plastic speedo cable retainers? I broke mine of course.

    Brad,

I would start by cleaning all of the connections were the haness plugs into the cluster. Additionally make sure that all the pins fit snugly into the plug.--All of this aplies to the bulbs and their sockets.

Inspect the printed circut film for cracks and hot spots.

But before you go tearing things apart, I would replace a few bulbs and see if that fixes it. Even when they look good, they can be bad.

As far as the plastic clippy thingy--technical term--I probably have one, even though you sold my headers to someone else:naughty:

I'll look for one when I get home, I can't think it would be worth more that $5 + shipping--if I have one. So between $10 and $15 total.

Unless there worth less than that(y)

The pencil erasure's a great trick for cleaning the contacts!!!

    Brad,

I thought I already sent an update to this, I must have posted tit somewere else?

I tried getting to mine last night, and couldn't seem to make it budge, figured if you broke yours I was only minutes away from breaking mine!

It appeared to me that the plastic gizmo was attached to the cable. If anyone knows if it is removable I'll try harder.

After looking at it, I can't imagine it being more than $10 shipping included! Actually looks more like .75 cents. I suppose you could get it up to $10 if you used a big enough box(y)

    speedometer cable?

no.. there is a clip on the plastic part that you press to remove it.. it is tight, and it hurts your hand to shove it in there... unless you want to climb up under the dash and have stuff falling in your eyes... lol

once you get the speedo cable removed, the cluster will come right out.. and then you can use this to fix it all up

    Okay simon,

I looked at that article, I now know why I was unable to get it off. I did not have the required beverage of choice. I'll give it another go tonight.:bananaman

    Brad & Simon,

It was bothering me so much, I left work early, got the appropriate beverage, and headed to my wrecking yard of choice.:thumbs2:

I found three Mav's with the clusters removed, with cables intact...lf there is a way to get the plastic gizmo off, I sure don't know what it is.:hmmm:

I don't know if the speedo gears are different for various years, these were all c4's. Bad english I know...To make a short story long, I can get you a cable with plastic gizmo, but dang if I know how to get the gizmo off???:hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

    Let me know,

Works for me!!! Sorry I could't help. There may be a trick to the whole thing. I don't know? Perhaps the gear end of the cable comes off. I didn't get to inspect that end of the cable.

I leave it in your capable hands(y)

the plastic gizmo you are referring to is the one on the tip of the cable that attaches to the back of the speedometer.. right>?

there is a little clip on it.. made of plastic.. you press it in and then pull the speedo cable towards the front of the car in the dash.. it will slide out..

you might need to press the clip in, push the cable towards the cluster, and then pull the cable out.. there is a lip that the clip clips onto to keep it from falling off easy..

try spinning the cable a little.. maybe its stuck?

The clip is not removable you will need to replace the speedometer cable.
