I've thought about it, but my father is getting a little anxious about parking his truck in the garage. My Maverick is in the way. And, I just don't have the time to get under there and make sure is a nice solid black. I don't know... decisions, decisions! Was hoping to get the motor in tomorrow, too.

The engine looks great. Add a finned valve cover, some yeller wires, and 3 carbs and it will look sweet!

    Hurry, paint the engine compartment.

    Dude,
Sounds like your POPS is a hater like mine!!!

Let him park his truck in the garage and show him what real men do... that you can still accomplish your goals. Keep the motor inside if you can and just put the hood on and deal with it outdoors on a nice day. It's not too difficult to do, just degrease the heck out of it, wait for it to dry (really good) and paint.

I thought I would have to do a lot of sanding with mine, but after degreasing, it actually looked like I got in there and did some serious sanding work :) I didn't though. Just used a very high quality degreaser... the kind that will make your fingers peel. It also helps to have a high pressure nozzle to wash the area out. The stuff just comes right off...

Anyway, give it a try!! My dad and I both build cars and mine Always come out better than his because I am more patient. Matter of fact, he does a lot of double work... No offense, but he's the type of person that would put the motor back in, then try and paint around it... rather than taking the extra few days to do it beforehand. Since I was a kid, I have watched this several times... it still amazes me today :) To each there own though.

Do what ever you have to but, paint the engine bay PLEASE! You will be so happy you took alittle time and did it and it will be soo much cleaner putting your engine back in. Shooting the engine bay is one of the cheapest things you will do to your Mav. and yet yields big in the end!
    Good Luck

Tomorrow is still over 7 hours away for you. Paint the engine compartment or you will regret it.

I would also paint the engine compartment, because i have to paint mine still but i haven't done it because i know it will be a pain in the ass with the V8 in there.

As far as the engine bay goes, I would love to paint it. However, time is an issue, I'm slightly not patient, and, to be honest, the car is just going to be an everyday driver. Also, It just doesn't seem necessary.

It'll be awhile before I can paint the car itself b/c funding is a bit short. When I get my tax return in a month or two, then I can paint it.

Back to the engine bay though, I can always paint around the motor or take it out again. It's not that big of a deal. I don't know. I'll think about it. Maybe tomorrow I'll do that.

Also, don't have to worry too much about the frame rotting... Southern car and never driven in salt, and plan to keep it that way!(y)

That little 200 sure do look purdy but as the others have said take the extra 2 hours and paint the engine bay . Even with a daily driver it makes it look better !

you just think the engine bay looks bad...waite untill you set that newly painted motor in there. :yup: to me it being a daily driver is more reason to paint it...people will see it everywhere you go. JMO
is this the motor that had all the leaks...if so did you fix them?

    ...:bouncy:...

Yes, the motor did leak. However, I've managed to "stop" the leaks with my own skill. Actually, I didn't... But it leaks very little. Like, one drop of oil per day. To me, not worth the time and money to fix. Yes, down the road I'll probably have to fix it, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. It'll be a few years, like 5 yrs until I would have to deal with it. Not like I don't know now how to take the motor out! :D Thanks everyone for your input!

BTW, what do y'all think of the shock towers?

Also, I've decided to paint the engine bay!! Y'all have convinced me! It'll look awesome!

You may have posted it elsewhere but if so, I didn't see it. I was just wondering why you went to the trouble of shaving the shock towers when you only have a 6 cylinder.
Your towers look good...just glad you decided to paint the eng compt.
