How hard would it be to put a 5 speed into a 73 maverick? There is a 83 gt ford mustang with a 5 speed at the local junk yard with all the essential parts still there. The pedals, shifter, crossmember. What other parts would I need?
My 72 has a modern T-5 5-Speed clutch. I bought a 28 oz flywheel for the 10.5 inch 5.0 clutch. We had to make a custom crossmember (Pretty easy) and modify an early Mustang cable conversion kit (Hard!) to miss the full length headers. I bought a hydrolic clutch kit for it and will install it when I put the new 306 in. Mine was an automatic. Also you need Maverick pedals. I am pretty sure the Stang pedals are completly different. Oh and it's totally worth it. It turns my 3.70 rear gears into 2.52s in 5th. Also you might want an 85 or later T-5 from a 5.0 mustang. The older ones are not World class T-5s and break easy. .
Just thought i would throw this in,while i was changing the tranny this week [didn't break but was noisey since i put it in] i took some pics of my crossmember, hope this helps Derek.
Make sure you keep all the hardware becuase your going to need them. I didn't keep any of the hardware & it is a pain. Those bolts are very important. I could not find a Ford dealer that any of the bolts & the parts stores want you to bring one in so they can match it. I found one dealer but they want $8 per bolt. I ended up buying ARP bolts because they are cheaper then the dealer.
here's a car that has had it done, maybe you can talk to this guy....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...RK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=320108376530&rd=1,1 He's got it all going on, 5 speed, cruise, A/C Bucket seats..... Get in touch with him and see if he did the work himself
i talked to that guy and he said that he just bought the car and doesn't know all that much about it.
Do anyone know if any other 4 speed Ford peddles might work? I found a guy in Coldwater,MS that have the peddles out of a Couger. He also has a Maverick, Rancho, Falcon, & parts of other Fords.
