I just finished the "cross your fingers run it at 2500 for 20-30 minute" new cam break-in. Other than a small valve cover leak all looks good. Drained the oil and no metal to speak of, same with the filter. Glad this chore is over! Thanks to all for the help with the last cam issue. Love this board
I did, a bit. New cam is slightly smaller than the last but tighter lobe seperation. Seems to run a bit quiter than the last. Nice lopey idle also. I only took it to 4000 due to heavy smoke from the valve cover leak. There is always tommrw! (running comp cam 282s)
I studded my heads at the valve covers. Makes VC gasket alignment that much easier, and if you use the rubber style gaskets, you can use them over and over. Glad to hear your break-in went well. That is always a dicey proposition. The cam reps always tell you to run break in valve springs with a lower seat pressure, but who really does that? And can you blame them? Removing valve springs without removing the heads is a PITA. And on top of that, new engine break-in requirements are not always the same as cam break-in requirements.
