Alrighty, the turn signal, cam, and flasher switch assembly inside my steering column was screwed. I painstakingly cobbled together a whole, functional peice from two different ones, (both from same year model.) The wiring may be faulty (wire matching mistakes)... So, now the flashers work beautifully, but the turn signals will only light up, but WILL NOT blink. The flashers (552s) are new, and work fine. Is anyone familiar with the wiring setup on one of these pieces?? I need help!!! Also, the flashers were looking sickly and not lighting up bright enough until i spliced the light blue cam wire to the ~12 guage yellow power (horn) wire. Still no other change except brightness. The Mav is a "69.5", so it has ignition in dash, (was) column shift. Thanks for any help... I dont know if any of y'all actually rebuild crap like this... but I usually have a knack for it... just got done w/ entire steering wheel and horn button resto
If the power for the turn signal is flowing through the flasher, and you know the flasher is good, then the lights should flash. I would try a test light on either side of the flasher. If the test light starts flashing, it would seem to me that maybe you somehow bypassed the flasher when reconnecting wires. If that were the case, the turn signal switch would be acting like a normal on/off switch supplying power to the turn signal lights constantly.
Help! Are you asking for "help" or stating that you used the HELP brand signal cam? Those are crap, so are the ones from Autokrafters. I ended up finding a NOS one from ebay after driving years with only one canceller working. Sorry I can't help with the wiring, mine was a direct replacement. I just cut the wire to the column shifter light.
