I just bought a Maverick rear end today and want to make sure they sold me the right one. They said it was a 73 or 74 mav. It is a 5 lug 10" drums. There were no tags on the car.

Here is the rear differential tag number:
    WDW-T 1CC
    79 8 520A

    Numbers in cast:
    C70W
    4025 A
    24

    Thanks,
    Joe

I think there may be a letter missing somewhere.
'79' may be part of '2 .79' ratio. 2.79 is probably the
most sommon ratio on the '73/'74 b lug rears.
'8' likely means an 8 inch ring gear. I don't know about the rest of it.
If it is from a Mav/Comet, and is stock, it would
    be an open non-locking differential.

Thanks for the quick responce guys. You were right I did leave out the 2 on 2.79. Any ideas on how I can get and put 3.5 gears with posi/true loc etc on a small budget in this rear. Are there cars out there that I can get the parts in the junk yard etc if so what do I need to look for.

Sorry to keep bugging everyone but if I wanted to upgrade to 2" or 2 1/2" drums on the back what do I need or what year car can I get them from.

Thanks again for all your help,
    Joe

This may be a very dumb question but hay I need some help so I am going to ask it anyway. This 73/74 Maverick rear end drum brake pads measure 1 3/4" but the drum measures 2" of surface. Can I just replace the 1 3/4" pads with 2" pads?

    Thanks,
    Joe
