    If it is a 428...

look at how close the valve covers are to the towers. Almost looks like the heads are resting on the towers...

I agree, I would like to see more pictures from various angles.

It's an FE motor, you can tell by the intake actually being the top of the valve cover rail. But it looks like the headers he talks about aren't mounted. I can't see the front tube anyway.

yes more pics would be great and I agree with the comment about the heads almost touching the shock towers but that engine just doesn't look that big in hte picture compared to some other pics I have seen with 351W or a 390 BBF in comparision this engine doesn't look big enough to be a 428????

Could be though, I guess, I have seen pictures make other things look bigger or smaller thant the really are.....LOL

Yeah, we have discussed this before.
Seems like an FE Mav pops up occaisionally bringing the subject back.

I have seen several in pics.
None I have seen has tower shaves.

I have posted many times that Hooker and Hedman both made swap headers for FE in Mav until just recently. I guess they didn't sell.
They are BIG tube headers too. Available bigger than even Cleveland/Mav headers. Up to 2.25" primary.

I think the FE is like the Cleveland in that the exhaust points down and does not interfere with the towers. Therefore big tubes are no problem.
302 and 351w exhaust ports exit right into the towers, that is why small tubes are the norm for those.

Fwiw: 390 and 428 are same on outside, like 289 and 302 are same.
I notice it was said a 390 would fit, but the poster thought a 428 would be too big. Same engine...

I didn't mean to infer that a 390 would fit but the 428 wouldn't, I know they are pretty much the Same Block, I have a 390 in my 1968 Galaxy and it's a pretty big ole gal. I was just using the 351 and 390 as examples of some pictures that I have seen and with both I have always seen shaved shock towers and things were still not what you would say was roomy by any means, just took me by suprise to see what is said to be a 428 without the towers shaved at least a little.

Funny story about the 1970 V8 MAv I had, before it belonged to me, the buddy of mine that put the 302 in it took it out to cruise the same night that he finished it up and and got it running right. That 302 was a mild build 275 -300 HP but the car was still pretty quick, with the gears and the the shift kit and stuff. Anyway, He pulled up to a light in down in Southern Maryland where we live and low and behold what pulls along side of him, another Maverick. Both of them sitting there lopping and racing their engines. The "other" Maverick took off from the light with his front tires several inches off the ground adn my buddy that just built his 302 turned his Maverick around and went home for the evening.....LOL He found out later the next week that the Maverick that basically waxed his Arse off the line had a 428 stuffed in it......

More than likely has shims under the motor mounts or specially made motor mounts

35 years ago there was a 428 Mav running around in NJ, no cutting of the shock towers. The guy did say he had to unbolt the engine and raise it a few inches to change spark plugs.

    :rofl2:
Prollly had to raise that engine for more things that just the plugs, hahahaha, I wouldn't want to change anything on a motor that was that big in a engine bay that small. Water pump, oil filter, starter motor...None of it could possibly be any fun what-so-ever...HAhahahaha

But I bet it is a helluva fun car to :drive: , especially to :drive: away from a light with say hmmmm maybe a $45,000 corvette sitting next to you and wax his arse with a 30 something year old Ford "economy car" that inspired the Pinto
    :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

Talk about going home and kicking the dog and beating the wife... wouldn't that be a pisser all that $$$ for a vette and get your hiney tore a new one by a Maverick

    I had a 351c in my 75 without a shave.
To make my life that much better (sarcasim), I just had to put Moroso valve covers on the engine.
It looked cool, but the valve covers couldn't be taken off without raising the engine, much less the plugs.

Sorry about misunderstanding your 390 thing...
Nowadays, most folks don't know FE at all, so you kinda expect it...

We are used to seeing the headers mounted on 302 engines and that they are almost on "squarely." The exhaust ports on an FE engine almost point straight down toward the ground. The headers aren't up against the shock towers like they would with a 351W. FE's were put in 67-68 Mustangs, 64-68 Fairlanes, etc. I can tell you from experience that a 390 in a '67 Fairlane is PIA come spark plug changing time. I may be a little wet in the head, but if you can find the headers posted earlier, I think a FE swap is as easy as a 351W swap.

The photo don't show the towers very well, I wonder if both towers(complete) were moved out (increasing the front track width) like Pro stocks were done back in the day.
