Anyone have any ideas please help

    i own a 75 maverick and a comet
    hello all i had posted a question about the same car i'm posting now. i relaced timeing chain and gears new distbutor and wires rebuilt carb and car is still giving me issues car will stay at a idle type peed if i get engine warm and hold throttle 1/2 way what did i do wrong or what is wrong thanks for any help all this work was dune after i was haveing problems with car not running right i was told by many it was the timeing and carb so i fixed both and still have the problem help please

    sounds like timing...

    Any popping, backfiring, etc? smell lots of gas in the exhaust?

    Might be as simple as just a couple of swapped spark plug wires...:huh:

    pops once in awhile and i dropped dist in at tdc twice i will double check wires

    Good idea.
    I'll go a little further and say check for too large gaps or cracked insulators. Either will cause problems like you describe and drive you up a wall.

    Please don't take offense, but are you sure that the timing chain is installed correctly? Sounds like a chain that is off by one tooth and I've seen that done many times. I hope it's not, because that's just a pain to get to. But I've had chains skip a tooth when they got old and they act exactly like you are describing. An easy way to tell is to run a compression test. If it's off you will be down on cylinder pressure. Just my 2 cents!
