Jamie I am sure you could give me more night mares about mavs in various states of neglect and wreckage and disrepair.I just cringe becuase here in Buffalo N.Y. There are NONE to be found in junk yards. I am pretty sure aside from mine their are probably 5 more in the weastern N.Y. area.Crankychic in tonawanda(1) this guy bill in clarence(2)A sprint I see once or twice every summer running around(3).A sick fast 71 that drag races on the area tracks(4)and a Blue grabber I have seen twice in 5 years(5). Mavs didnt live long up here. They were a dime a dozen when I was a kid,Now only the 5 I mentioned plus mine(6) Its kinda neat being the only one at local shows/cruizes though. But man did they ROT away here.Mine is a cali Dessert car so no rot on it and I try hard to keep it that way.We dont say the word salt or rust in the same sentence around it.It might develope a complex.

That's funny, my '73 was bought new in Buffalo, N.Y. :) DSO 12. The body shell itself is totally rust free, not a speck of rust in the floors, quarter panels, or anywhere. I don't think it was up there very long. It had been in South Carolina since at least the mid 80's when I got it. I did replace the doors, and fenders because of the surface rust was bad enough to put large pits in the metal. The car now has '69.5 doors, and fenders from a '73 4 door, making the car totally rust free. It may be the only original Buffalo, N.Y. Maverick left. ;)

You are probably right about it being the only buffalo one left.It was not uncommon to see them around here with the shock towers pushing the hood up and the front wheels cocked inward. It must have been well cared for up here to not have any rust on the quarters or floor pan.Wow a buffalo native mav thats a RARE car indeed.(y)

Yea, that definately isn't a problem with this car. It's got the reinforced shock towers, and they are solid as a rock. :)

How common were the reinforced shock towers?? I wonder if it was a buffalo car thing??

I have no idea. Seems to me there are more Mavericks without reinforced towers then with them. '73 is the only year I have seen with reinforced shock towers. My '73 4 door is from Jacksonville, Florida and has them, as does my Buffalo, N.Y. '73 2 door. Both cars were built at the St. Thomas plant in Canada (V.I.N. code X)
