It's a nice car, but nowhere near worth that price...

If that car is worth $13,500, then Dan's is worth $20,000.

Okay now...don't be insulting Dan. His car is worth more than that!!!:naughty: Just ask him if he would sell it for $20K.

Nope, it's not insulting. I wouldn't sell my '77 collection of parts for $20,000, but it's certainly not worth anywhere near that much. What a car is worth and what a seller would be willing to sell it for and usuaully always far apart.:yup:

Well, I tend to disagree with you on that one. Cars like the ones that Dan, Dennis, Craig, and a few others have are definitely worth more than $20K. First off, see what it takes to build one including labor. You can't touch the car for anything close to $20K anymore. These guys wouldn't sell their car for $20K (I don't think). Therefore there is not an existing market for a car of that caliber. However, if all three of these cars came up for sale for whatever they decided to ask for them, there would then be a market. I would be willing to bet anybody that if either of these cars came up for sale for lets say...$25K...it would sell very quickly. The average poor Maverick/Comet buyer may not be able to afford it but there are investors out there just dying to sink some of their money into quality automobiles. (hence the Barrett Jackson idiots) Therefore the cars would then be deemed worth $25K at that time setting a new precedent for Mavericks. It's just a short matter of time and you're going to see this happen. We've all seen the prices of our cars and parts going higher and higher. I keep hearing guys on here say their cars aren't worth much but if you look at the size of this forum compared to 3-4 years ago and realize how many people are getting into Mavericks/Comets that never even considered them before...the prices can only keep going up. Sure, there are still a few good deals here and there but they will soon be gone. Mark My Words!
Oh yeah...I hope they have them insured for at least that much.

We're not disagreeing. We're looking at from two different sides. You're looking at it from a market stand point and I'm looking at from a net worth stand point.

First of all, you can't put a worth on those guy's (or yours) Mavericks because there is not a market for them. We know what it's worth to them becuase they can tell us the money and the hours they have it. Will it sell for what they have in it now? Probably not, but that day is coming as you said. You would know more than I, but could they legitimately appraise for that much? From a financial statement point of view, I've been telling people that I'm putting $15,000 in a Maverick and when I'm finished, I might have a $10-12,000 car. If I put $15,000 into a '68 Mustang, I'll have at least a $20,000 car. Would I sell my Maverick that I put $15,000 and hundreds of hours into for $12,000? Hell no! I wouldn't sell it for $20,000. But, I can't put it down as a $20,000 asset for financial statment and net worth pruposes.

When the market and the appraisal values catch up to Mavericks, then I can say that I have $15-20,000 car.

BTW, the $20,000 I first said about Dan's was arbitrary and stated to show that if the market is paying $13,500 for the maverick on e-Bay, then Dan could easily get $20,000 for his.

If I had the cash and garage room ... I would have no problem paying $13,500 for that 73 ... Even though it's not a snorkel hood Grabber just the original condition of that car makes it desirable. Most of us are aware that getting a 1973 Grabber that has undergone normal 35 year old deterioration would cost that much in parts, supplies and labor to restore it ... and that doesn't include blood, sweat and tears. And a car is only New and Unrestored once ....

Funny you should mention insurance ... my Hagerty Policy is up for renewal today ... :)

Better UP it. If it were to get totaled out tomorrow, could you replace it or build another one as good with the funds?
