no, i have not but after my 347 stroker is done and makes half a dozen passes to find out what she can do ,i have thought of putting a turbo kit on it for the last three months. I already have the retired machinist who says he can do the job start to finish in three days ,he has a full machine shop at his home. Dave the machinist says he believes a intercooled turbo from a 85 thunderbird will do the job nicely,im putting my battery in the trunk so he thinks the space were the battry use to be will be a nice spot for the turbo with a few modifications.:cheers:Jimmy2gates ,ps when the turbo kicks in at the 60 foot mark ,it should put you into the back seat, lol

Yeah, the thought has crossed my mind as well.. And the spot where the battery is is perfect place to put the turbo

If I'm right I think someone here has, I'm not sure but my guess is mavman.

I know one of the Mavericks at the MCCI Roundup was supercharged, but I haven't seen or heard about a Turbo on this board as of yet.

I'd have to completely custom fab something. I'm worried about getting the motor put together and running, then in the future I'll look at my options. I was just curious to see and how people set it up

What is the ideal comp. ratio to run either a turbo or supercharger? I've heard that you can't run as much boost with higher compression ratio's:huh:

Yes it was Mavman that did it. His was a single turbo if memory serves me. The one I'm building is a twin turbo using the turbo's from supercoupe's like Jimmy is suggesting. Packaging is the beast here. I had to move the shock towers for clearance for the exhaust and now the real work is beginning.

Oh and Okibono is working on one also, but I think he is going with a single also. He is looking for much faster times than I am...but he's going about it the right way!

I thought you were going to stuff a 460...or someone said to you if you could test fit a 460 there. I don't remember, but your project sounds wicked!

Yes I did it...on the cheap. 'Course everyone said it couldn't be done so I proved otherwise. I've not seen a running turbo v8 maverick since. Okibono posted some pics on another site, looks like he's elbows deep in it. Don't stop now...I wanna see some 8 sec timeslips!

As much as I'd like to do another one, I just can't afford to do it now. At least not the way I want to do it. suppose I could do another like I did before but why? I already did that...had fun...tore up some parts (and a lot of pavement). Next time it wont be quite as wicked. it'll just be deadly fast....

LOL I'd love to have the 460 and the turbo's...but my pockets are not that deep. Years ago I had built a 521 Mustang, a Bronco II with a fuel injected late model 5.0, and a sandrail with a 2.3 turbocharged with nitrous...they were all fun projects. Those experiences inspired me to build a street/strip car the same way. I decided that the Maverick was light, inexpensive and relatively easy to build a high horsepower motor for. Parts were easily available but what I didn't count on was having an engine compartment that was smaller than a Mustang and a block that was simply too weak. So I invested in a Mexican block and started cutting the shock towers. So that's where I am today...one year after first putting her on jack stands it's awaiting the final turbo fitting. I'm expecting that when the temperature out here cools off and the humidity drops that I'll make some headway on the final assembly.

8.5 - 9.0 is good enough for most street cars on pump gas.

Too much boost + too much CR = detonation.

If you have a high compression engine and you want to run a lot of boost, you have to back the ignition way off under boost to the point that the car won't hardly run, so what's the point of all the boost. You can also get into auto ignition (dieseling/preignition) with enough compression and boost.

Some people get by with running more compression, but I have yet to see a high compression engine live very long on high boost. Just because it makes one pass, doesn't mean it'll make two.
