rebuilding my 74

    because i dont no what happend i was driving about 55 mph when all of asudden it droped to 15 and wont go any faster got home and checked compression and i think it is good all cyl are at 90 psi is that good?:huh:

    no oil in cyl spark plugs good and valves and rings have no leaks it held really good at 90. any ideas? lifters ?rods? timing? help plz if i cant fix it im going to sell it to fix the sprint.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Could be timing chain jumped.Is it a 6 cyl or 8?could also be fuel delivery.

    COmpression looks good. If it was running real ruff, I'd say its a timing issue. If it was running about as smooth as before but just slow, I'd say its a fuel problem.

    Simple things first. Make sure the throttle cable and linkange is ok and check the fuel filter. If it was somthing with the valves, it should show up on the compression test, which sounds like it was ok, so it should be an easier fix. I hope.

    k ill start by replacing the pump and send the carb in for a rebuild and wile the carb in the shop ill do the chain:thumbs2:

    I think what folks are suggesting is that you diagnose the problem.
    They were giving you the order to look at things, not the order in which you should throw money at things.

    I agree with ratio411 . You could replace all those parts and spend even more time and money to find out you got a tank of really bad gas or something. Diagnose the problem first.Could be a bad coil,vacum line,or???.

    i pull the coil wire off and found its full of oil? wth:hmmm: never seen this befor ill try that first

    Coil failed.The windings inside the coil are submerged in oil to insulate them from vibration and to dissipate heat.If the oil is leaking out,replace the coil,its done.

    new coil will be alot cheaper then doing all that other stuff too lol
