Sorry the pics are not good quality. This is my 71 with pretty bad rust in the right corner. It's so bad that the shackle is almost falling off. So I started cutting metal piece by piece until I could find metal that wasn't rusted and this is how far I have gotten. I cut out a full corner from a nonrusted 73 before it got parted out completely. I am gonna cut it to size and just weld it in in one piece.

I know there are a lot of different thoughts on how to prep it after welding it in but I thought I would: sand off all the old paint, spray weld through primer on the back, weld in the donor piece, apply seam sealer to the back, grind, apply epoxy primer to the outside and then bondo.

Wow! Seems like a little overkill, but good luck. Make sure you reinforce the rear section of the frame rail, don't just butt weld it together.

wow, a rust in cali, you must have gotten the car from the north end or somehwere like lake tahoe?

But yeah seems like overkill, i'm one just to drop the new piece in, weld it, and worry more about the mechanics of getting the bumper back on secure as a primary effort. And i thoguht the rust my mav has was bad!

well, it's a georgia car. I bought it as "rust free". As a matter of fact the statement the person made was you can "eat off the trunk". Yeah, freakin tetanus!!

OK, maybe I'll chill out with the rust work. It'll be tough enough welding it on right.
