I am trying to find out some information about oil pans. I would like to keep the original fit (front sump) for the 302 but I want something with better oil management. I plan on drag racing this motor along with daily driving. What would be the most cost effective way of taking care of this.

    New pan? (recommendations)
    Weld in a baffle? (recommendations)
    Go with rear sump? (recommendations)
If I go with a rear sump, what other changes need to be made for it to fit in the car.

    Car info:
    1977
    302
    headers
    manual steering

    Thanks
    JP

In my opinion, unless you are going to run a very high HP engine and lots of rpm, the stock pan is going to work just fine. Worst case senario would be--5500 stall convertor, 4.86 rear, nos and 14in slicks. Standing on the back bumper would cause serious prob's. In reallity a street/strip car is not going to have said items so not to worry. High volume oil pumps sometimes will suck the stock pan dry at very high rev's(7500 ti 8000). Aftermarket companies make millions selling parts that in normal use, are not needed. Believe me, I have contributed my share to the pot and found out later that the stuff was no better than what old "Henry" himself produced.

I agree with Old Guy . If you are feeling fancy you could deepen the oil pan an inch and weld in a baffle . Thats all you really need until you stand it on its bumper
