So.. I'm back under fairly unhappy circumstances. I kept my Maverick while I was driving and working on my El Camino, I'd wanted that car for a long time. Well, this morning it was stolen and I had to get back to wrenching on the Maverick. I like the new tech article section and I'm already looking into doing that 2bbl carb upgrade along with a better exhaust and maybe some new heads now that classic inlines is carrying them. I sold my Comet.. it wasn't cost effective to fix 'er and it broke my heart, but I needed the cash and parking more than I needed it. Soooo I'll be back around asking all my stupid questions in the meantime. Steve
I feel for you. That is my worst nightmare. My Mavs are in storage 100 miles from where I live and will worry about them all winter long. Best wishes
Anyone touches my mav, they die. It is called 00 buckshot. If they were to think about it. I would probably still shoot them just to be safe. I live on base so crime is pretty low. The kids piss me off.
sorry to hear about that. we are the state with the highest stolen car rate. if you want to post a pic here. i'll keep an eye out down this way.
I'm sure she's either in Mexico or in a million parts by now, but it was an ugly red El Camino, the driver's side bed was in primer and you can hear it from a mile away. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I can't fathom why I stopped coming here. You all rock pretty hard.
Sorry on your loss! Wow, hard to figure someone stealing the El Camino and not the Maverick! Tells you right there what kind of sick-0 they are
Good news. The police called me at 1 AM this morning asking if I could come pick up my car in half an hour. Apparently some drunken kids just joy rode it until it ran out of gas.. then called a tow truck to drop it off in front of their apartment complex! The truck driver said they paid in cash and he didn't remember what they looked like - he actually called it in afterwards when they just left it parked outside in a bus lane. They'd smashed the windshield, tore out my turn signal lever, ripped off some trim pieces and my wipers.. the only thing they took out of the car was my registration, leaving all of my audio equipment and tools. Wow. Just wow. I'm heading to the junkyard this weekend to get a new turn signal switch & wiper arms and I'll be calling up the glass guys this weekend, but I've already started planning on what to do on the Maverick.. so I'm going to have a hard next few weeks balancing cash between the two cars. I'm still just stunned by what the thieves did to this car.. just annoying crap, nothing big.. why? Just wow. EDIT: When I got back with the car someone had hit the Maverick on the rear driver-side fender, leaving a nasty scrape. I hate my complex.. although it's much nicer than the one that my El Camino was dumped.
To be fair, a race between my Camino and my Maverick would be like an Olympic gold-medal-winning runner against a pregnant woman in a wheelchair. And the El Camino sounds way better - I really have been doing most of my work on it and neglecting my Maverick.
