hey guys! my first post! i have a 77 with a c4 floor shift and a stall right now. what would it take to install a t5 tranny into this car? i have no pedal. it has 4 wheel power disc brakes. i would like to use cable or hydrualic setup if possible? how much grief is this swap? lol!! i assume the bell housing/starter is also different!
Try and use the search function on the top of the page there are tons of info on here about the T-5 swap, this is where i got all my info from.If that doesn't work for you i'll chime back in and do my best to explain some of the steps. All i have to say is the clutch cable set up was a PITA!!!!
dereck. wicked sleeper!!!!!!! what does pita mean? piece it together? lol!? my 77 is quick (high 13) but boring with the c4. i have at t-5 sitting here but maybe a aod might be easier? this is a third car for me but i've had it for 20 years. the picks that i attached are from my zepher that i put a 85 mustang motor, tranny, suspention combo into. it was way more fun to drive.
i forgot to mentoin that my very first car was a v-8 72 comet gt. it was a rust box. but i loved it! it was a higher option car. but it had drums!
lol...have been doing this swap half this year. I have a 77 Comet. The peddle assembly does not bolt to later cars. I just came up with the clutch peddle working right(I think) but I have not did a test drive yet. I have to get a new booster(tore the otherone up while tring to come up with something) from Advances. 1st find a donor car for the peddles. I will look for part #'s of stuff you will need Thursday.
I will post some pics tomorrow of the cable and such.I'm sorry but i didn't take any pics of the apparatus i have under the dash to accomadate the cable.I really should have i was doing so much head scratching at the time i never thought of pics.I'll do my best at explaining tomorrow when i post some pics.
:Handshake i did the ...AOD...(i sell the ...crossmembers...if you go that way.) we did a T-5 in Earls, 69.5. he has a cable clutch kit made just for mav/comets. ...Frank...
I'm using a Maverick clutch peddle & came up with a way to connect it to the factory auto peddle assembly. Ordered a Quadrant from here(http://www.mustangsteve.com/cable.html ) & weld it to the clutch peddle. You can get a firewall adjuster from places like UPR or Steeda.
thanks everyone! that sounds like too much work! how about installing an aod? how hard is that? shifter from 84? up mustang? what about speedo cable? driveshaft?:Handshake also i live only 5 miles away from lentech.
For the $1200 that you will spend for a decent AOL you can buy a C4 that will handle twice to three times as much HP. AODs are expensive to build for performance. Lentech is one of the best AOD builders around. You can also check Broader Performance - They sell both.
thanks paul! yea you are correct. right now my combo is .030 over mexican 302 forged pistons 9:8 to 1, 270 degree comp extreme cam, 600 dbl pump holley, ported heads chevy valves, black jack headers, 2.5 inch exhaust/dynomax welded mufflers with turndowns. i can set off car alarms with it. lol! in the rear i put in a lincoln versaille 9 inch disc brake assy. ( paid 75$ for it!!). added a posi and 3:70 gear to it. also dodge rear springs. they help! ok the tranny right now is the original c-4 that i rebuilt on my ping pong table.lol! i used a article from an old super ford magazine for the mods. and used a kit from pa performace. a cheap 2200 stall converter. removed the coloumn shifter and installed a pinto shifter. it all sounds good but its a bit of a slug compared to my blown 93 mustang! having said this it will easily keep up with my buddy's 68 camaro. and with a touch of brake it will burn through all three gears with ease! lol! maybe i should just enjoy it for what it is??
HaHa sounds like a blast,if the trans works good have fun with it till she blows then worry about swapping something over.Your car sounds alot like mine, buget build and a whole lot of fun.Click the Youtube link, you'll see what i mean!!!
Well 9PSIMustang, you can build the C4 to take over 600hp with stuff you can buy off the net. All you need to do is modify the cooling system, drill the drums, add one clutch to each drum, put in a "C" front servo, install a four or six pinion planet and bump the peak line pressure to about 220psi. That way as long as you are running the 302 you have enough tranny for your engine. You would have to run a really big cooler too but I assume you already have that. The only time an OD is any good is for cruising on the hiways and it sounds like you enjoy the rpms too much to have it in OD anyway.
