ive been looking at those cougar lights and thinking, man i should really do that. without buying the whole fiberglass tail panel is there any way to make it work? the car in the pic looks like it has some custom tail panel work but not an actuall mustang panel swaped in. it looks like they just tried to make it flat across instrad of the stock raised area through the middle im sure i'd need the trim rings, and probably a diffrent bulb housing. any other thoughts?
what the hell, just go for it, it it doesn't turn out how you want it, weld the pieces back in, maybe look for another tail light panel to make a template out of
sorry, im jst nervous as hell cutting into my tail panel like that am i right in my need to buy trim rings and the shelby bulb housings?
when I did mine, I cut out the raised area on the tail panel, welded in a flat piece to mount the lights. no factory contours to worry about that way. I think it looked good. there are pics on here somewhere I'm sure.(77 mav)
what is it you need to modify? the bucket locates in the trunk, the lens and which ever bezel you use go on the outside. the most you will have to do is cut the opening a little larger. please correct me if I'm missing something.
but im working with 68 cougar tail lights and housing. from what i gather between the 67-68 cougar and the 67 shelby only the actual red plastic lens is the same so i'll have to buy the 67 shelby chrome outside trim rings and the 67 shelby light bulb housing that sits inside the tail panel. the cougar housing bolts to the outside of the tail panel, but i believe the shelby housing was modified to bolt inside the trunk and large holes cut into the tail panel fro the lens to poke through.
ah,... looking at your pics(in the "for sale" forum) of the housing I cant tell if it has a lip on it to where it would seat on the inside. all the t-bird, shelbys ,ect that I've seen all the housings were mounted on the inside. its been quite a while since I've seen a later cougar close up . any way you can post a closer pic of your housing? oh and the shelby housings werent modified, they were straight out of fords parts bins from the t-bird
