Hi! I'm not a new Maverick owner, but it's been a few years. My first car (7 years ago) was a 1974 Maverick, with the original inline 6 in it. It needed some work, and I made the mistake of letting a friend do the work for me while I went to school/work. I came back to a block that was missing a chunk, where the water pump was supposed to be mounted, a hole in my radiator, and water in my oil. The man will NEVER again touch my cars. The car ended up sitting in my dad's yard for almost 3 years, while I finished high school and moved to Gainesville after I got married. The weekend I was going back to get the car out of his yard (I had finally gotten things arranged so that I would have the time, space, and money to work on the Mav), my dad sold it....I cried and wouldn't talk to him for days. Childish, I know, but that car was my first love. Since then, my husband has been helping me look for a replacement, and we finally found one. It's a 1970 Maverick, and it needs a LOT of work. But that's okay - I don't mind projects. So I will be asking lots of questions and hopefully getting the answers I need. It's great to be back in the Maverick family!! **BTW, I was on this site 6 years ago when I had my original car, but I don't remember any of my login info. So I'm new.....but I'm not.**
Before I do anything concerning the engine, I want to get the body work done, and take care of the rust. The car has just been sitting in some guy's yard for over a year, under some trees, so I want to make sure I get all of that taken care of before I drop an engine in it. I'm thinking a stock 302, or maybe a 331, not quite sure yet, with a 5-speed in it. Gotta have a stick!! LOL. I know I want a Grabber hood on it, with the classic lights (tail and head). Bucket seats, to accommodate the stick. I'm thinking a rich, dark red with black stripes coming off the hood over the top of the car, with a cream interior. Have some time to plan yet, though, so we'll see where I end up when it comes that time.
Welcome aboard! :Handshake Glad to have you here. There are quite a few Maverick guys down in South Florida. You might want to get in touch with the Cameo Club. Lots of great people there. http://www.cameoclub.com/ Let us know if we can help!
Welcome back, I have a 74 Grabber with a mild 302 #'s matching. I also need to restore the car it's never been touched. I'm the third owner. I was looking for a 71 grabber that's what I had in my teens. Injoy!!! Ken from Ocala.
