I was sold a 1970 Maverick...or so I thought. It says 1970 on the title and everything, but there's a slight discrepancy...the key does not go on the column...it goes on the dashboard. I was told that only the '69 1/2 Mavericks had that...is this true? Also, I am missing something in my trunk, can anyone tell me what it is, so I can get it fixed? I know the fuel tank is missing, I mean the part that goes above it....
The fuel tank drops in that hole and yes the 69.5 Mavs had the key in the lower dash insted of on the column.
Nothing goes above the fuel tank. It also serves as the trunk floor. Your car is a 69 1/2. They all say 70 on the title. It was built in 69 though.
Awesome, thanks guys. I think the fuel tank I got today is a bit big for my car then, LOL...we tried to put it in there, and it wouldn't fit. Oh well. We'll manage
The 69.5 -70 fuel tank is a different size and design than the 71+ Mavs/Comets. The 71+ tanks are suspended by straps under the trunk floor. The 69.5-70, as others mentioned, drops in from the top and serves as the trunk floor.
I got it from a member on here that lives about 45 minutes from me...it was in great shape, problem here being I'm tired and can't remember what year the tank was from. I have a LOT of work to do on the car yet, new engine and transmission being top of the priority list. So I have a little while to find a tank for it. My husband and I are doing most of the work on it, between work and classes, so it will be a lengthy process.
Like they said... the '69.5 is a '70 model year car. There technically is no such thing as a '69.5 Maverick, it's just a term coined by someone to help distinguish between regular 1970 Mavericks and the early '70 cars which have the obvious differences. Just like a '64 1/2 Mustang. What is the VIN and info off the door tag?
Hey, I'm the broke husband in all this Vin is: T162656 The fuel tank came from a '76. It looks like I could bend the tab of the driver's side up, and squeeze the tank in place, but that won't be very attractive, if it is supposed to be the actual trunk area! Gonna have to find some pics of a 1970 Maverick trunk.
BTW, parts we're looking for include: Small bumpers (70-72, I think) Front windshield Rear windshield 1970 drop-in-from-trunk gas tank Hood That'll be a start
That 1976 tank absolutely will not fit without either: - some serious modification (if you are somewhat of a novice) - a real hack job (if you are a total novice) I have seen it done. It was NOT pretty.
I have a 69.5 Mav, and the tank is a bit of a problem, but not impossible to find. I'm sure someone on the boards here will have a spare they might be willing to part with. Good luck with the project. You have come to the right place for any help you may need.
to you and MavBaby :Handshake Broke Husband...(Project Manager) kinda has a nice ring to it ...Frank and Effie ( Mrs. 71gold)
