Just wondering. I had a oil cooler adapter leftover from my fox body days and mounted it on the maverick, only to find out that my filter won't fit since it is about 2" or so long and the filter hits the shock tower so It won't work. I have read about getting the 90 degree adapter from a ford van to angle the oil filter forward, but if it's not worth the hassle I won't even deal with adding a cooler.

I went to the JY looking for that van adapter and I swear every Ford van in the yard had been robbed already.

So just wanting to get some input on this before I go any further. I guess I could try to find a shorter "stubbier" filter.

    Drivetrain specs :
306 mild cam, E7 heads, Edelbrock 600 carb, C4 w/ street fighter converter, I will be running a transmission cooler.

Don't know about the cooler, but if you want a smaller oil filter one for a Toyota 22r/22re fits perfectly and is much smaller.

Any of them from 83? - 95?. I have an 86 4Runner with a 22re and my brother has an 85 Truck with a 22re. If you ask for a filter for my 4Runner at Napa they bring you one slightly bigger than the one they bring my brother with the truck, even though they have the same engine. I guess they felt the 4Runner needed the extra capacity for some reason. I would go to Napa and ask to look at both and figure out which will be best for you. I like bigger 4Runner one because of more capacity, but I don't know if it actually matters. They are both smaller than the one for the 302, but the truck one is even smaller than the 4runner one, so it depends on how much space you have available.

you could use a filter for a 2.3 its about 1/2 size of the 302 (hieght wise). I had an 83 turbo coupe that called for it and I bought a turbo motor from a jy that was from a merkur xr4ti that had an angle adapter on it too.So being a turbo I used to use the full size one...I didnt take notice of the T.C. 's original ( the guy I bought it from through a rod right through the block thats all I remember about it)

the mustangs the came with that cooler took a shorter filter. if you ask for one for a 93 5.0 with either the hight way patrol or hevy duty option you get the short one.

Cool thanks for the info guys.:thumbs2:
I guess I'll head over to Napa after work and get the right filter.
May as well run the oil cooler. I'll probably run it down low in the valance opening. I'll run the tranny cooler on the front of the evaporator. That'll probably look cool there.
