So I was installing my new gas tank when I noticed a hose just kinda hanging there. I looked at it and tugged it a bit, not hard, just slightly and it popped out of what ever it was hooked into. So anyways, it is a rubber hose with a metal screw end on it, it is torn, looks like it went up behind the back seat or something. It screwed into something that was on top of the rear axle. This thing on the axle had another rubber hose going into it and 2 steel lines going into each rear wheel. I hope it doesnt have anything to do with my breaks.. cause I think I need those... Yep. Brakes. It looks like the hydraulic hose that goes in to the brake splitter on top of the rear end. From there, it goes along each axle as a hard metal line. The fuel vent was just a rubber line slipped on to a nipple on the top of the tank. This one has a brass fitting, so it is more likely a hydraulic line.
You guys are right. Vents out the top, brakes from the front... Brake line has the rubber raised rings around it...
Ok, so the question is, exactly how important is it, It doesnt screw in there any more, just kinda sits there, im pretty sure its just been sitting there for a long time now.
It's holds the rear brake lines in place, I would think it's pretty important, plus you don't want water getting into your rear end (housing) Are the threads gone on the piece that came out? or are they stripped in the rear end??
There threads appear to be intact, perhaps the threads inside the peice it came out of are stripped. But it will slide in and out easily with just a little rubbing along the threads, almost as if the hose is just a size too small for what it is attached to.
Carefully lift the block that the brake lines go into, maybe 1/2 a inch, get a flashlight and check the threads. That metal fitting with the hose on it should thread into the rear end housing and tighten up. The block with the lines going into it has no threads, there in the rear end housing.
i think there are 2 diff. size nipples as Dave said...the nipple screws into the hole in the tube... Frank
If you need to, that entire brass block can be purchased new from NAPA. I had to take mine off and match it to what they had in stock. I wish I would have written down the part number because this is the 2nd time in the past month or so this has come up.
