hi, im new to this forum, and just bought my first 1976 maverick , it has the stallion decals but there in the wrong spot, and has chrome trim BUT the guy said the old trim was painted grey and never was chrome, he stole the chrome from a couple of mavericks and comets he had kickin around his yard, (left over from his comet resto) and the original paint has been painted over. i`ve is there any other way to tell if this is a stallion or not? any help would be greatly appriciated thanks jamie
Posting some pictures would help. Does it look like a stallion? What about paint? Welcome to the board also.
it has been repainted dark gray , and sorry i dont have any pics yet , i`ll try to get some tomorrow, i just bought it about 4 hours ago, the car has had many owners and each one did something to it. so there is no two tone paint to tell , and the guy put the chrome trim on it and tossed the painted stuff
The only way to tell for sure is to contact Marti and get one of his reports. There is nothing in the VIN or trim codes. All Stallion trim was blacked out. http://www.martiauto.com/
welcome abord is there any paint left in the door jams or places likr that to clue you in on its original color? another thing that has me confused is if the car has been painted how are the stallion emblems still visable? anyway, good luck with it. hope to see some updates as to what you find out
6 = 1976 model year K = Kansas City, MO assembly plant. 91 = Two door non Grabber Maverick. F = 302 2v V8 engine. 189415 = 89,415th car scheduled for production at the Kansas City plant for the 1976 model year. If you have any other codes off the door tag, we can help with those also.
Is the decklid underneath flat black? Lots of cars that get repainted dont repaint that area, could be a clue. Also, my car wears its original stallion decals and has been painted twice, takes very very good masking skills. Dan
DSC02152.jpg DSC02158.jpg DSC02153.jpg these are some of he pics i took , sorry it took so long , had trouble figuring out how to upload them, the stallion decal is in the wrong spot on this car, ind the guy i bought it from changed alot of stuff, im bringing the car home today , but the engine bay is black, and rust. the door tags are all destroyed . thanks for the help this site is a wealth of knowledge
The car looks to be a regular 1976 Maverick. No Stallion came with a tan interior. They only had black interiors. Stallions also never had any of the MAVERICK emblems on the fenders. The STALLION decals are not only in the wrong place, ( probably because of the body side moldings, something else Stallions did not have ) they are pointing in the wrong direction. The horse head should be facing toward the front of the car. Even if it's not a Stallion, the car appears to be in pretty good shape. What are your plans for it?
