    Need some more info

First ,what kind of Carb, Engine and Dizzy(Electronic or Points) do you have? With the engine cool I would first start with a good tune up. New plugs, wire, cap, rotor, point, condenser (if you have them) vaccuum lines ,fuel filter ( try and get a clear fuel filter),and air filter. Then I would change the oil and filter. Start her back up an let the car run. Is the choke plate full open? If not let just wire it to the fuuly open for now. Hook up a vaccuum gage and timming light. Disconnect the vaccuum line from the carb to the dissy and plug the line. Start the car check the timming and record the number. Set it to 10 deg to start. Now will go for the air mixture screws. Record the vaccum reading. Turn the screw in till the engine almost dies, then turn them until you get the highest reading. Repeat if you have 2 screws. Re-set the ildle if needed. Let take her for a test drive. :thumbs2:

Let get her running first with what you have. I don't think the new carb would help. If the carb was bad I don't think it would start right up and idle. After the engine is wram-up have you put the car in drive with your foot on the brake and see if the engine will idle in drive? If it dies right away could the idle be to low?

It's seems that 90% of the problems with Mavericks & Comets is the carburetor, and it's usually the fuel filter, accelerator pump, or the choke.

Unfortunately.. the stock 1 barrel sucks...

I've installed gauges in my car and it is running awesome... today I got stuck in heavy traffic & sunshine for an hour - I watched the temp go up & down and the oil pressure go up and down... when we started moving the car cooled off pretty fast and oil & temp were fine - always within safe limits - but I've noticed EVERY time I get stuck in traffic idling for more than 5 mins the carb starts to get swamped and I have so use 2 feet to pedal the gas and keep it from stalling - probably from the hot air thermostat and "heating spacer" they installed.

Also, when I've parked after a long drive the carb heats up and it doesn't start well when hot then chugs for a few minutes. After a short drive it cools off and smooths out again.

Many complaints about the inconsistency of the stock 1 barrel - even when cleaned and rebuilt. Everyone raves about the Ford 2 barrels though.

That line from the exhaust manifold to the carb sounds like it is the heat tube to the automatic choke. It needs to be there. There should be another line that goes from the exhaust manifold up to the carb air cleaner baseplate or directly to the air cleaner. That is where the heat tube gets its air from.
