It was raining. I was riding with Earl and he asked me if that was oil coming from the back of his car and I then I saw his oil pressure gauge dropping down to below 20 psi. He cut off the ignition and we coasted to a stop in the emergency lane. We only had to add about 2 3/4 quarts to bring it back up to full after replacing the filter. Made for an interesting day. Earl can tell you about his problems later in the day. But it was still a fun day.
Wow ... usually that happens in the driveway immediately upon startup ... I can't believe Earl was able to drive so many miles with two gaskets!
Man, I'm glad I had to work! That is the exact same thing that killed the engine in my mom's '04 Lincoln LS. Had the oil changed on a Saturday, drove around the rest of Saturday, all of Sunday without a problem. She was driving up I-985 to work Monday morning and started noticing a tapping noise which quickly escalated to a loud knock. I guess they call them idiot lights for a reason, because the low oil light didn't come on until the engine spun a rod bearing.
The good part was Earl wasn't stranded on the side of the road. The sad part was someone had to go buy an oil filter wrench...and they all had a belt around their waist.
Jeff ,I must admit I probably would have never thought of using a belt to get the filter off. Pretty smart thinking for sure! I`m glad Earl didn`t lose his engine , and we all still had a fun day...good food too!
