Well ... they use the plain slider with the later mono Am/FM Maverick and Truck radios ... maybe they are interchangeable ..
Imagine if, back in 1971, somebody told you that in the year 2008 you would have a little screen inside the car that tells you what way to go... I wonder how I would have imagined that back then. If I had actually seen a computer in 1971 (which would have been difficult since I was 10yrs away from being born) I probably would've pictured a green-screen monitor or something. Either way it would've been a mind trip... Jason
yeah dan...I installed a truck radio last week....I reused my 70 am radio knobs.....like you did...shafts were longer too...had to cut the plug from my 34k original am ....but it fit like a glove...nice old gentleman gave me the radio....installed with my shoes on....
well one of these days i , ll get me a camera...and yes the original bezel fit beautifully...there must be a special spanner wrench for that thing huh..did pretty well with snap ring pliers..
Here's one with the correct length shafts ... out of my price range though ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968...011QQitemZ320095510997QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
yikes.......if you had bought that one, you would be missing a shirt as well as your shoes!..heck probly even hafta part with ya left lugnut...
I just sacrificed my AM radio to see how the shafts are constructed. I'm pretty sure that with some careful dremel work the shafts can be properly shortened to work with the Maverick Bezel ...
In 1974 you could buy a Motorola AM/FM mono radio from you friendly Ford dealer as a dealer installed item. I have one on my shelf downstairs next to an fm stereo 8 track tape deck I once used. Back in the day that was conserded awsome!! I ofter though of re installing into my Maverick to show how aftermarket car stereo was at that time but I will not cut holes for speakers in a perfect interior so I live with the Philco AM radio!
The seller is Perogie Enterprises. If you aren't familiar, they don't sell anything if they can't get 3x what it's really worth (literally). I suppose the owner is rich or something, because they sit on stuff forever. Eventually some gets sold. I suppose I would do the same. Sooner or later, Perogie will have a corner on the NOS market. They are just patiently waiting. On the radio: I have the same one, but my bezel is the black version. I would like to have a chrome, but mine looks nearly as good. Mine also had long knob posts. The stock AM knobs didn't fit at all. I had to use the ones with the radio, and they don't look quite right. If anyone figures how to shorten the posts, make sure to write up an article on it.
grabber joe if it is a mono radio it used the single speaker in your dash. Also I have practiced shortening the shaft with a dremel on my am radio. Once I get a set of AM knobs from yellow75 I will shorten them. Its not difficult but if you make a mistake your screwed ...
