Dave, that is too clean. You can't see any detail... I will have to post pic of a dirty car so viewers can see the brackets and other details...:D

When I put sub-frame connectors in I add seat brackets to the connectors.

Okay ... just want to make sure that I have this correct ...

The brackets that are being referred to are the ones for the front? (Red arrow)

My 72 Comet has a bracket there, but it is shorter. It only goes from the hump to the red line, and is in the right place for a bucket seat track to rest on. Maybe this is a Comet-only thing? ( I read that GTs were always bucket seat cars ...) Sorry I can't take a picture, it is under carpet.

No extra bracket for the back part of the seat track? ... just the box section on the track? Seems to me that would carry more weight than the front...

yep those are the factory bucket seat braces., you would think rear would hold more weight, no idea why the brace is on the front.

Its in front to keep the seat bolts from pulling holes in the floor and to support the seats in an accident?

Thinking about why they are in the front ... even though the front supports far less weight, there probably is more leverage and forces at work there, during acceleration and deceleration. Still ... I am probably going to stiffen up that back position somehow.

Also, I got a driveshaft safety strap (half a loop) for an early Mustang. It bolts in using the inside rear seat bolts, and I am hoping it adapts to our cars well. I'll do a tech article if it works.

Getting back to why my car has front braces but they are much shorter... the car in the picture is labeled that it is a 1971 car, and mine is a 72.

Maybe all 72s and on started getting this brace?

Anyone else want to check this? All you have to do is feel for it under the carpet.

I would advise a 1/8" piece of steel about 4" x 4" as a support on both sides of the floor.

If you want the seats too far back, that is pretty easy... just use the wrong seat tracks. I did it without even trying ... :rofl2:

Mav and Comet bucket seat tracks move the seats pretty far forward from the chassis bolts, right at four inches when slid all the way forward.

71-73 Mustang tracks are set back one inch, extending only three inches forward. Also, they have ends that are not flat and need modification.

The mystery set of Ford tracks that I used to mount my highbacks into my Comet only extend forward two inches. I am 6'1" and drive with the seat on the second notch from all the way forward. My wife, at 5'4" needs a pillow behind her. This is with the seat tracks mounted in the original bench seat chassis holes. I did this a dozen years ago and can't recall what they came out of, but it was a Ford and they mount directly to the seats. When slid all the way back, these seats crowd the back seat like a new Mustang.

Since I just got proper Mav seat tracks, the ones I have been using will be up for sale soon. If you are taller than me, these might be what you need.

    Hey,

I know this is a old thread. But does anyone happen to have set of braces lying around? as I'm planning on swapping to '73 Grabber buckets in the near future. Or is there something aftermarket Mustang perhaps? that's just as good or better, that requires little to no fabrication.

Are you wanting the extra bracing that was welded to the floor at the factory for bucket seats? If so...I should have a pair. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.
