I have a chance to get a brand new one for free. (Bartering actualy) Anyone running one of these? I am having a bit of an issue with my uni-lite and thought now is the time for a change. My only concern is the width of the base. My unilite comes very close to my temp sending unit in the manifold and I am wondering if this MSD will fit. Thanks, Scott

p.s. I know I will need the box to run this and have already orered the 6al

Done deal, Thanks. Second, related question. I am also installing the 6al box. Is there any reason I can not put this in the trunk with the batteries and starter solenoid? I don't know if it has to be a certain distance to the coil etc. I will upgrade the gauge line due to the distance but was wondering if that would be fine. Anyone ?

Actually you shouldn't have that much wire. I'd put it inside the car, however, I've used it and still do (depends on the car) in the engine compartment (too much vibration, dirt, water though). Either way, the magnetic pick up wires shouldn't run along side battery heavy gauge wires. I like to shield them with a PN 8862 harness.

PS If you're gonna go with the 8582 you have to use a MSD igniton box.

    RE: your p.s.
As I stated above, I am installing the msd 6al. I just wanted to move it to the trunk and keep the engine bay clean. My starter solenoid is already back there and seems to work great.

The solenoid wouldn't be a problem. However, I don't think the magnetic pick-up cable is that long . And as I said, you'd have to re-route it in order to keep it away from the heavy gauge battery wire. I'd put it inside the, in front of the trans shifter...I'll try to find a pic so you can check if you like the way it looks.
