    Hey guys,

I just bought a 1971 Comet GT today!

I can't wait to get started on restoring it. I have already been cruising the threads looking for info. The plans for it so far are:

    - take out the engine, tranny, and interior by the end of the month
    - tow it to my cousin, who is in autobody school in Fargo (he is going to get her looking good!) by september
    - drop off the 302 to my "master engine builder", who is going to beef it up a bit (not sure what yet, I will talk to him today)
    - over the winter I would like to try and go through the transmission with the help of the "hot rod your c4 tranny" thread

I also plan on dropping the rear end. I want to put in positraction, some deeper gearing, and new leaf springs. This is where this forum will come in handy (since I know next to nothing about comets). I have to find out if I have an 8 or 9" for a back end (did the gt's come with 9s?) to start with. I haven't worked on cars very much but I figure that I can probably get my questions answered on this forum! So please put up with me for a while (y)

Howdy and :Welcome: These cars never came from the factory with a 9". They were all 8" except for some of the very early Mavericks which had 7.5" rears.

Welcome aboard! Yes, you will definitely have an 8" unless by chance someone has changed it out over the years to a 9" which is possible but very unlikely. Good luck on your project. Sounds like a great plan! (y)
