I don't think Duraspark is bad, and I don't think HEI is bad either. They do the same thing, they do it well, and they've both proven reliable for decades.

But I do agree the HEI is big. I don't know, it's kind of a tradeoff. With the HEI you get to remove a lot of wires, the remote coil, the ignition box, and clean things up, but at the price of a bigass distributor cap. If it's that offensive looking though, you can get smaller HEI distributor caps that allow for an external coil.

I might do that eventually. Stages, like everything else. I do things as the time and money allow. The HEI solved my problem economically, does a great job and I can't imagine any stock system doing noticeably better. :2cents:

If you run a duraspark you'll have an external coil and external ignition box.

But I already have a external msd coil & wires to use, I just wanted to find a cheaper way of constructing a "ready to run distributor".

You can use the coil and wires w/ the duraspark.....

You don't have to have a factory replacement type coil for duraspark. The MSD wires and coil you have will work just fine.

Just make sure you get the correct cap for your wires (big or small)

i run the duraspark dizzy with a msd box. it works great. you can start with the duraspark box and later as your performace demands it you can get the msd box and not have to change the dizzy.
