I will try my best to tell what my problem is here.

I got my new comet out of storage yesterday evening. I was bringing it back to my place (about 15-20 miles) and when I was just a mile away all of a sudden antifreeze started shooting out of the overflow and into the collection bottle which is vented and it was shooting everywhere. This was right after I had gotten off the freeway, and it had run perfect. Today I changed out the thermostat and radiator cap and took it around the block a few times. It seemed to be running perfect. When I got it back to my place and shut it off antifreeze then started shooting out of the overflow bottle again (not as bad, but still a problem obviously). Do I have a bad head gasket maybe...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Blown head gasket .... sorry .... :( When you say storage ... was it stored all winter? Any chance of the coolant freezing?

It was stored all winter. I just bought it about a month ago and picked it up yesterday. I was really hoping it was just the thermostat dammit :(

I doubt the coolant could have froze

Run a compression test on the engine and a pressure test on the cooling system. Do you have a temperature guage installed to see how hot it is getting?

As not everyone has a compression tester (and since you have to take the plugs out anyway to do a test), sometimes you can tell by just removing all the plugs and cranking the engine. If you have a blown head gasket, water will shoot out of the spark plug hole.

I'm reminded of how I know this. :(

Also, if the dipstick has a white foam on it - that's a giveaway that's it's a blown head gasket also.

I'm reminded of how I know that one too. :(

Maybe a partially clogged radiator not cooling too well, and the weak cap letting it boil over?

I had the same thing happen to me, The first thing I found, the bottom hose was collapsing fixed that helped some but still spiting. So I tried a 16lb cap instead of the 13lb cap the parts store said it took. I don't know if this is right but it solved my over flow problem. Know more water in overflow at all running 180 to 195 in town all day. I failed to say I had all these problems even with new rad.

I been there done that sort of thing before. It rang a bell when i read it for some reason so i figured why not, its cheaper than pulling the heads.

Make sure your t stat is opening......

After sitting closed they get corrision build up on them and will not open or very little.....

    Go drive the car
    )top off fluid first.....

And touch both hoses upper and lower see if one feels luke warm compared to the other,,,,,
