Does anyone know if the svo 351w will fit in a Maverick? The deck height is listed as 9.5" in. Any help would be great.
thats the same as normal 351s except the first year which were 9.48 tall. very tight in a mav, but doable.
....or you could go with a new block from FRPP that is 9.2" deck and you can get it with 4.120 unfinished bores. Combined with Yates heads and you'd have a screamer! Sorry, just dreaming again. Yes, the 9.5" is the same as all '74-later 351w blocks. The early ones were .020" shorter.
Hey thanks for the info. I wasn't sure. I wanted to get a 4 bolt main I can stroke out to 454 c.i. I know it will take some time to do everything right, but hopefully it will be pretty good.
...better get the 4.120" bore SVO block. Or, you could go with a Dart block. You probably won't be able to go to 454 inches with a 4.000 or 4.030 bore. I think 421 is the largest I've seen with the standard bore size. 454...man, that should be a monster! Hope ya got good heads! Good luck
454 Ford offers a 351w block with 4-bolt mains and 9.5" deck height that can be stroked to 454. It can be bored .125. They also offer some Yates heads I was looking at.
unless you are going serious racing with this, or just want to spend the money, you can use a stock block and spend the money in other places. i have a '72 351w block .030 with a stroker kit using a 400 crank, iron rods and flat top forged pistons with dart steel heads (ported) for 408 ci. this has pushed a 2800 lb t bird as fast as 9.70 @ 140mph for more than 300 runs. heads are studded and most important the mains (2 bolt) are studded. block is not filled. shift at 6200 rpm. roller cam and on alcohol. alky is probably only worth about 2-3 tenths. would be a killer street motor. good machine work and assembly are the keys.
I would like to have something different and don't mind spending the money. Although it will take some to do because I don't want to spend it all at once.
351 in a mav i put a 351 in my 1970 maverick and im scared of the clearance for the headers, any comments or tips on this would be helpful
if its in and they're in and bolted up, you've done well. if the headers are hitting something or are close enough to knock, mark these spots, remove headers and asing s hammer and a socket of the required size, "adjust" themfor proper fit. other choice is to mark spots, order tubing, and start cutting and welding to adjust the fit. hammer and socket method is simplest if it will solve the problem areas. i just got thru doing the cut and weld bit, but it was only option available. by the way the flat black barbaque paint at Lowe's works well on headers.
thanks for the tips, yeah ive got in and bolted,i havent tried the headers yet,im having problem finding the applkication for such a swap,i found ones in summit but ive heard they are not right,im still searching,i think they might fit with adjusting you mentioned,i think gettin to my plugs will be a task though, laugh,if you come across the application of headers for the swap ive done let me know, thanks for the tip[.
