I just recently rebuild transmition last friday, i have all the gears except reverse, it just stopped working today, was working fine all weekend up to date, earlier in the day it was little slow to shift in it, any suggestions what to check? transmition is not slipping in foward gears at all ether, just an odd, planning to take it to work tomorow and see if i can readjust the shifter linkage, maybe thats the problem. any ideas are appreciated.
yes, i used the spec out of my 73 manual, 10 inch pounds then 3 turns out on low reverse and 10 inch pounds and 1 3/4 out on intermediate band
well new development, i don't have reverse when tranny is hot, this morning i had reverse perfect and everything was right, after tranny heated up car now wanted to move in neutral a bit and reverse was none existant
Does it have a shift kit? When I installed my Trans-Go "reprogramming kit" it changed the recommended tension on the bands. What your manual said to use would have been too loose for mine, but probably fine for 100% stock. Guess we'll have to wait for PaulS to saunter into this thread wearing his dark sunglasses, gator boots and a purple velvet suit, see two barely dressed ladies on each arm remove his fur-lined overcoat and hand him his gold scepter with an ornament on top that resembles a C4 bellhousing, and enforce the regulations on your transmission.
Maybe Old guy will chime in also.. Have you checked the fluid levels and stuff? I'm sure you have but just a suggestion.
Three turns is an awful lot, I alway's go no more than 1 3/4 on both. Sound's like maybe you have a seal that is either torn or not sealing good. When trans fluid is cold it is a bit thicker in viscosity and will work the servo piston and clutch pack piston's, until it get's hot, then it thin's out and leak's bye. Did you rebuild it yourself or have it done? Just a few thing's that I have seen, could be VB, gasket's, etc.
They are a straight pipe thread, I think. Never did size them cause I have enough core's here, to rob them from. Local trans shop might help you too. Some are straight fittings and some are 90 degree's, depending on what vehicle and who has altered their's for a different application. Very hard to find in a automotive part's store brass fitting selection. May be a Ford size, if you know what I mean.
Zoomzoomguy, The cooler fitting are 1/8" straight pipe with an o-ring seal. If you didn't replace the rear servo piston/seal assembly then do that before you replace a valve body. To do it, tighten the rear adjuster to 10 ft pounds and then remove the rear servo cover - a little oil will come out with it and the piston is likely to pop out and splash a bit of oil. Put in a NEW rear servo piston/seal assembly and reinstall the cover. Loosen the band to 2.5 or 3 turns (factory specs) or what your valve body kit recommends. TransGo recommends 10 INCH pounds and 1 turn out on the front and 2 turns out on the rear. Be sure to top off the fluid while the engine idles in park. NOTE: no girls, no robe and no scepter - just a guy trying to help when I can.
Yup, they are 1/8'' NPT I bought 1/8'' NPT to AN adapters when I ran my tranny lines on the mustang and they worked great
i readjusted the band, will try that also paulS if this dosent work, i have spare valvebody so i wouldn't be actually buying anything.
