Questions about my maverick (color, rarity)

Tonight i decided to learn more about my mavericks history, after a friend informed me that in his research "purple is a rare color, and you might just have a grabber in disguise".(its not a grabber, I found that much out thanks to its VIN).

I'm pretty sure the car was factory purple (although, i cant seem to find it listed on any "factory colors list"), I think this because the engine bay is purple (while the car is light blue, and the Door jambs are black).

Anyone know where i can find more info on the colors? The main thing i want to know is if the color actually is purple, and where i could find some to repaint it in the future?

Also, the guy i bought it from said that it was "rare" due to its factory floor shift automatic, is that true?

I'm just trying to get a feel for what its worth, and all that... So i know what direction to take the project.

the VIN is: 1K91F195742 if that says anything (other then the 91 signifying its not a grabber).

OOps... I saw the 71 Jetta line, not the 71 Maverick... there was a "maroon" colour... is there a plate still on the driver's door? That has a paint code on it.

 

Theirs no plate on the door, but their is a paper/sticker thing on the door jam (looks like the ones they show on sites... White square with boxes and codes in the boxes).

They say:

DSO: 742414


The color square has no letter stamped in it (its blank), which i heard during my research, means it isnt a factory colored car but a dealer special (on mustangs at least, as i read it on a mustang forum about a 71 mustang), is that true for mavericks too?

The color is definitely a purple. Not really maroon or pinky, but Purple.

That car was special order to the Seattle area according to the DSO.

I don't think "Trim: A" is a correct code. There should be a number before it. Unless that's the color code, in which case means the car was black, which would corroborate with the black inside the door jams. Factory black Mavericks are pretty rare from what I've seen.

Other then that, your codes say it's a '71 Maverick, built at the Kansas City plant, factory 302, 2.79:1 rear gear, and C4 trans.

Can you get some pics of the car? Under the hood, the door sticker.

 

Cool ... definitely special order ... a Ford 999 or Marti Report may be able to help you find out the real deal about the color ..

 

The trim probably has a number i missed (it is dark, and that part of the tag has black paint oversprayed onto it a bit.) I'll go check it again real quick.

Yea, the number is illegible. It looks like maybe a 6, but i dont think it went that high (all i can see is the very bottom of the number.. the rest is gone due to fading/overspray, but it looks like a 6 or backwards 3 with the enclosed round part on the left...I could be wrong though).

Yes i can. Tomorrow before work i will try to get some good pictures of both of those.

 

The black over spray tells us that's probably not the original color then.

There is no 6A trim code. I'm going to make a bet that the trim code is 8A, which is a black bucket seat interior, the seats had the comfort weave material in them. That would corroborate with the car being factory floor shift auto.

I think you definitely have an uncommon car here. I would look into a 999 report at the least (free), and I would strongly consider getting a Marti report on it (cost $$$).

 

the seat is a bench seat (black). They aren't in right (they wobble), and i have yet to inspect why... But maybe someone swapped the buckets out for the bench? or maybe they just have a screw loose..

If it had buckets, there should be two holes drilled in the floor near the trans tunnel on either side, and possibly some extra bracing on the floor between the tunnel and rockers.

If I'm not mistaken, the floor shift was only available with bucket seats from the factory, you couldn't get it with a bench.

 

I took some pictures of the shifter/seat and the purple firewall, below. (Click to enlarge). I tried to get a picture of the label, But couldnt (my cameras flash got in the way), I'll shoot a picture of the label when the sun is out, with my phone.

 

Sure appears to factory purple. Noticed the rubber floor mat as well.

 

It's got the correct plug going through the firewall for the floor shifter wiring. Whats the color if you open the trunk and look up under the package tray? Purple? I'd be getting a Marti Report no matter what the cost, you may have something special/different.

 

I looked at the car and saw the original seats and door panels it did have comfort weave buckets and matching comfort weave deluxe door panels in it originally, I could not figure out ther color of car originally either as it has had so many colors on it but it does really appear to have been purple due to motor compartment being purple.

Matri report is a good investment, the $49.00 one at least it will tell you a little more about the car, it still may not tell you what color it was as the wanted a paint chip from my 75 Grabber to tell me the color and it was just black and white.
