So me and my dad are fixing up my 1970 Maverick. i got a few questions. 1st off the body is rusted in the normal spots such as the quarters, front bottom fenders, the trunk is a bit rusted and could use some maintance but for the most part that stuff is done. questions i have is. we pulled off the rear valence and the underneath of the car was a rust heaven. now i know you cant see it when i drive by and stuff but is their any easy way to make it look better and stop the rust other than welding in new plates and whatnot. another question is my break lights dont work. we have put new bulbs in and they still are out. we looked for the switch on the car but we couldnt find it. anyone know where its located at? Then we went to the door for the paint code so when we buy the paint we can get the original color. but the ass holes who owned it before us for some ODD reason scraped off all that great information off the door and now we cant tell what the letters are. i seen under the body that the 1st digit was a 6, then after that there isnt anything left. anyone know what the code could be, the origianl color is a dark green metallic color. Other than that i need to do a few minor tune ups on the engine such as new plugs and air filter and clean it up a bit. il try and get some pics of it up here in a few days.

if it's just "surface rust" and not cancer all the way through, you could use a rust inhibitor found at a local paint shop. you just slather it on, wait for it to turn to a gray color and dry then you can prime and paint cheaply.

also, split up your paragraph, i read it probably 5 times before they stopped running together. but, thats probably the lack of sleep.(y)

like thatd be the only one that is close. As for the rust, its pretty much like

Colon Cancer lol. Its not pretty under there. If i was making this into a show

car id probably weld in new panels and get rid of it. but who knows thanks for

    the help fellas. :D

Hi green i know exactlly what you are refering to behind the rear valance (been there done that) if you go to my 1st post you can see what mine looked like and what i did to repair it if u think you do want to go through the trouble of replacing the rear subframe plate i can have 1 made for you but it is an extreme amount of work to replace. If you look closely at the plate thats on yours you will see indentions on each side where the plate meets the quarter panel drops. The one i can have made will not have the indentions on each side and it will be longer than that width wise (cut to fit) other than that it is exact. Lemme know if i can help in anyway if you decide to take it on.

Take out your seats. On mine there was a tag on the bottom of one that had that info.

    Welcome to the board

The brake light switch is attached to the brake pedal. It is attached with a C-clip. Easy to get to if the car is an automatic, miserable if it is a stick. It is probably easier if you remove the clutch pedal.

I would test to see if you have power going to the switch first. When mine have failed, the brakes lights stayed on all the time.

When Grabher said to break up your original message, he meant one topic/paragraph. Makes it much easier to try to figure out what you are asking if you are putting more that one topic in a post. Makes it easier for those of us with ADD ... oooo, did you see that? ... gotta go ...

First check to see if the switch is good. If not replace it. Attach the wires to the switch to see if it is good or not.

Make sure you have a good ground. I would switch lights and see which bulb lights.
