had no luck finding a decent 6 and the cost to rebuild really isnt worth it

i did however find a running 351 just pulled from a grampa boat from the early '70's. i believe he said it was a galaxey? drove it home yanked the motor, just needs a carb to fire up.

ive got some '77 maverick 302 manifolds i hope will fit and the rest should be pretty straight foward. im going to bolt it up to the stock trans

will my PS pump work with that bracket?

i'd like to keep the a/c too but i can leave it off for now if its not a staright foward swap onto the W

heres why the 250s comming out if you missed my last post :(. the #3 exhaust valve decided to let go...

    Nice grab on that 351.

If it is from 69-74, they all have pretty good heads. 69 would be coded C9, seems like they used D0 heads 70-74... all of them are good for factory heads. Compression on 72-74 is a bit low ... 8:1, but that means you can run regular gas all day long.

Are you going to modify the motor at all? If so, PM me and I can offer some suggestions.

Are you saying you are going to bolt up the 6 cylinder's C4 to that? I think you might have to change the bellhousing, but I'm not sure.

Exhaust manifolds ... you are going to hate life if you try that. Exhaust is the biggest problem with this swap. I would cut the shock towers too. Even with a 302, cut shock towers are a benefit, makes it soooo easy to work on. Much easier to get to the plugs. (y)

Your PS ought to go on that bracket, and if your AC compressor is a York, it should work on there. That looked like the brackets that came on both my 302 and my 351

What year does the sticker on the valve cover say?

The EGR bothers me, I don't think they had those in 73.
This engine may have been in a few cars over the years.

Like Cap'n said, hopefully it is a 69-74. Those are the best years for a mild foundation.

    Good luck!
    Dave

yeah that may be late 70s 78-79 maybe early 80s

    good score though

im sure you will like the extra cubes, headers will be fun, unless you want to use stock 302 manifolds but either way i would do the shock tower mod

[IMG]well the stock manifolds are what im going to try to use. just to be cheap. maybe an intake and carb but nothing extravagant.

heres one more pic. it looks like it still has the points dizzy? that would date it to be a pre-75 right? but i'll know more when i have it

If the distributor is original, then it would. But we all know it only takes 10 minutes or so to swap a distributor out.

I'd look for a partial VIN, which will be located on a flat area behind the intake stamped into the block, if it's like a 302. There may also be a factory build date stamped into the block in a little flat area that you can't see in that pic due to the A/C compressor bracket.

Don't take the points distributor as any indication.
Think about it... Grampa's engine burns up in his 73 land yacht.
They pull an engine out of a later model car, but Gramps isn't going to pay anyone to swap his car to Duraspark... So they stab the point back in.

I would look at the sticker on the valve covers first. If that says 73, then peek under the engine mount and get the prefix of the block casting number. That will put you in the ballpark.
The valve cover sticker will say something to the effect of:
"this engine complies with all federal regulations for the 197x model year..."
The sticker itself will also have a part number with a year prefix beginning most likely with a "D", followed by a number.
