My '77 does not have power brakes and has front disc / rear drums.

Speaking of which, back in the day when my baby was still running, I noticed a very sharp rattling sound whenever I would turn or go over a bump. This rattling stopped immediately upon applying the brakes. Would this be caused by the pads sitting loose in the calipers, or something worse I should look for when I start pulling things apart?

That rattling sounds like a loose pad. BTW welcome to the board. Russ
