    Welcome!

Lots of great Mavs and Comets and owners here ... very friendly board.

Overheating ... is it doing it in traffic and/or idling? ... or out on the road at speed? ... do you have a temp guage? ... if so, what temps are you hitting?

Welcome to the board. Was the car originally a 6? When was the last time the radiator was cleaned out? Has the block been bored out? Is this something that just started? :Welcome:

    Welcome Steve.
The stock 3 core is barely adequate (the stock 2 core will quickly be overwhelmed by a v8).

The factory monster 7 blade flex fan and shroud set up for the AC option does move a massive amount of air.

If you insist on keeping the electric fan...you might have to consider a radiator upgrade.

    Overheating,,

 It overheats in traffic and at speeds on freeway and im hitting temps from 190 to 220, it is a V-8 car , when i bough the car, the fan shroud was broken,so i put a flex fan on it with a junk-yard shroud not meant to fit a maverick,, but it worked untill i had it rebuilt, thats when i made a steel shroud for a electric fan,, and it still runs hot,:cold:, will i have to upgrade my radator,,what kind of inexpensive up grades are out there, !!!:thumbs2:

You could try a couple cans of 40 Below (by Pro-Blend) as a band aid, but it sounds like a new aluminum rad may be in order.

What kind of compression are you running? Have you tried running hi-test gasoline?

Welcome aboard! Nice looking car you got there. (y)

I highly recommend an aluminum radiator. You can buy a direct fit for around $250...and they look great!
