Can anyone e-mail me a schematic of the brake/clutch pedal assembly for a 71 maverick? My son's 71 brake pedal lifts up now and there was a hair pin clip laying on floor mat but i can not really see where it goes with out removing lower package shelf or removing steering column. My car doesn't have factory pedal assembly any more. It's tube frame chassis now.

Or if someone can tell me how the brake light switch and master cylinder attach. I know this sounds stupid but I can't see how it is all attached standing on my head in the floor pan.

    Thanks, quickboss quickboss@earthlink.net

Thanks! This is how it is attached and there is the retainer clipped in place bu the pedal will still lift up from beneath. Any suggestions?

It is possible that the retaining clip is missing from the rod where it is inserted into the piston of the master cylinder. If this is the case it is a potentially dangerous situation. If it were to fall out completely the car would have no brakes.

i agree with Allen. it sounds like the rod is loose on the M/C end...
    not good when that happens...

Where does the retaining clip go on the master cylinder push rod ? Its very difficult to see and I don't have a shop manual. Any suggestions for a good shop manual?

The clip is about 1/4 inch from the end of the rod on the master cylinder end. The only way you should be able to see it is by removeing the master cylinder. You should not be able to remove the master cylinder without disconnecting the rod from the pedal.
