just picked up a set of the tubular automotive headers for putting a 351 cleveland in a maverick. i tried them on my engine i have on an engine stand.
found out they wont clear my road race T pan. also the pipes shoot straight down for shock tower clearance. which is great if you have iron heads with ports that aim down. but i have the aluminum pro comp heads with an improved port that goes straight out. straight out into the wall of the tube that is!
i know i could do some port work to lower the floor of the port but i dont want to do that. still wont clear my pan either.
    might go up for sail!
wont know for sure till i stick my block in the car and try some other headers i have.:hmmm:

Which tubes are hitting the pan?
    Pictures?

Also, make sure the back 2 pipes line up with the others.
Mine didn't line up and I found out they sent me B302 headers instead of 351c headers. They look the same, but the back 2 pipes don't hit the collectors.
They were fine with swapping the headers back for me, so if you have a problem anything like that, they should be good to you.

Never lower the port floor on a Cleveland. It is supposed to create some reversion in the exhaust flow.

As for the headers turning down in a quick fashion, that is the cost for having a Maverick. All Maverick headers and manifolds do that. The 351w headers do it worse than the Cleveland headers, and they are smaller tubes too. So you got the best of the best without doing an M2 conversion and having headers custom made.

Also, if you have a "T" pan, you need to make sure it fits the chassis.
Most "T" pans don't fit our cars. The Milodon style pan, that transitions down at an angle is the only type of wide pan that fits our cars as a general rule of thumb.

my t pan is a milodon. not tapered down on the sides. but the front and back of the T are tapered in. its an older road race pan it has 5 trap doors inside. i havent had a chance to try it on the car. i dont see why it wouldnt fit, its not that wide.
the two front tubes are the ones hitting.
i know all about the ports angling down for clearance. but like i said , my aluminum heads ports dont drop off on the floor like the iron heads do. the header tubes the shoot straight down i bet there is only 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch opening in there.
i have hooker super comp for 67 mustang that im going to try.
i need to borrow an engine lift so i can put my block and heads in there for fit.
i'l cut whatever i need to to make them fit.
if not its back to the tubulars.
