hooker 6901s for headers 600-650cfm holley on the carb and just about any mild dual plane intake should perk 'er up a little. check out ebay for an intake. youll probably pay 1/4 of what summit would want
Ditto what New said. I got an 80-something mustang GT intake on e-bay for $36. Doesn't flow the best , I'm sure, but as a temporary holder for my 4v till I get ahead a bit, it'll do. 6901's too. You'll nbeed a power steering drop bracket ($18) if you have P/S.
Small vacuum type Holley carb, Weiand Stealth intake, and 6901 Hooker headers. The vacuum carb will keep you from over-carburating, the Stealth is mild enough to work on a stockish engine, but has room to grow in the future (especially on a light weight car like ours), and the Hookers are tried and true best fitment on our cars. This combo should not only increase power, but will likely increase economy (when you keep you foot out of it) and the engine should run a bit cooler as well.
I agree with Tony on the used intake and headers. These are items that don't really 'wear out', so used is good as long as there is no outright damage to the items. On the carb though, if you want a used one, be very careful to get one you know is on a good running car... Otherwise, get a new one if you can afford it.
Sorry for 3 in a row... I just thought of something else. The best gears you could have in an original car are 3.00s. A gear swap to 3.40 or 3.55 would make an enormous difference in the car as well. Especially after a 4v, headers, and duals. Huge 'seat of the pants' difference!
if its a stock motor with stock heads im sure an old early 80's GT intake like that would probably be just perfect
