is it ok to add, for example, new intake and leave it, come back in a couple of months and then install a new carborator??? would this hurt me in the long run? like would it damage my engine??? "like drinking water from a big straw, overkill"
your car has a 2bbl intake and 2bbl carb stock pretty much any intake that would be worth swapping on would be a 4bbl, so youd need a 4bbl carb to match it really, i dont see how you can get one and not the other. it would be like asking what to get first, the rims or the tires?
you can pick up used 600 cfm carbs for under 100 bucks if you look hard enough. expect to rebuild it so factor in that cost. i have holey 1850 series that needs a rebuild. i would sell it for $50 plus shiping. a 1850 series is a 600 cfm vac secondary single feed. it has a elec choke on it. pm me if intrested
Honestly, I made the same mistake when I first got into cars. I bought an edelbrock manifold, took it out of the box, and noticed that the carb wouldn't fit. So I had to buy another carb before I could use it. Make mistakes, learn along the way. I wouldn't use the 2bbl/4bbl spacer. Just a waste of money. Save up and buy both the carb and intake at the same time, or buy the intake and store it until you can afford the carb (or vice versa).
That's the best way to build a car on a budget, buy a piece when you have the money. I bought most of my stuff off of eBay, stored it until I got ready to put it all on.
thats the best thing to do IMO BUT if you buy and store, the best thing to do is figure out what you want and where you are going before you buy the first piece. Make a list and stick to the list, amrking things off as you get them. If you don't, your likely to end up with a bunch of mis-match stuff that won't efficiently work together! as always....my 2 pennies!
Good advice ,John. What I did , when I started looking on eBay, was to have in mind what I wanted at what price I wanted to pay. That way, you can spread it out over time, and still get the parts you want at that price. Some items seem to always bring about the same amount, so you have to watch them closer for the best deals. A site like www.fatfingers.com helps, too. I've found a lot of stuff on there cheap because some people can't spell too good!
