Probably just being smart a$$es. My Maverick has been called a Nova and Camaro a number of times, but the most common name it is called is AMX. Or those that do know it's a Maverick, seem to think the Maverick was made by Chevy. Friday night was a rare occasion, when I stopped to get gas down in Stockbridge, GA on my way back from Summit. This guy walks up and goes "where in the heck did you find a Ford Maverick? I haven't seen one of those in YEARS!" I laughed and told him you wouldn't believe how many people don't know what kind of car this is.
Wow! This is an OLD thread, but you're right mavdog71. You can't fix stupid ,and that is one thing that will never get old. I had to sit back and think of other stupid things I've heard since I first posted this thread, and one recent one comes to mind. At a show this past year a couple of Chevy guys stopped to look over my Maverick and one commented to the other about the Chevy wheels my car was riding on. HUH? What he was refering to were the Styled Steel Wheels that my car came equipped with from the factory. I know GM also had almost the exact same wheels for thier cars, but I guess it never ocurred to Mister Know-it-all that the lug patterns between GM and FORD wheels don't match up. I guess he also thought MOPAR and AMC Javlins ansd AMX's were wearing GM wheels too. DUHHH!
I just had some idiot trying to tell me that he had a big block 66 Chevelle in the 1980s that had a 396 with 3 two barrels, and that he made so much money "jumping coffee cans" ... "...uh ... what'da'ya mean?" "I'd put a coffee can in front of each front tire, the car would pull a three foot wheelie and never touch those cans. Used to bet people that I could do this and they never would believe me ... made a lot of bucks ... wish I still had that car ..." This was supposed on the street, too. I didn't even try to dispute this one ... just agreed that it must have been an awesome car and that he should have kept it. I knew it was the quickest way I could get out of there and would be able to change my ruined shoes and socks ...:16suspect
Haha, I almost got into a fistfight with a guy at a junkyard once over a Comet. I thought all Mav/Comet guys were nice! Sounds like Chevy shirt didn't know much about anything. It's best to let people bask in their stupidity.
Sometimes its better to just ignore some people if they will not reason with you. I have been showing cars since 1983 and I think I've herd it all. There always seems to be an engine issue. The 6 cylinder comment is there because early Mavericks were only 6 cilinder powered from Ford. My Maverick has orginal paint and interior whitch is not believed! I own a '69 351 4V Mach 1 that I restored and I have won many awards, some 1st place. What do I here from some people? "I wouldn't even bother unless its a 428CJ" Most of these people do not even own a show car of any kind. They just read magazines on the toilet.
I pulled into the gas station about 6 months ago and this guy comes up to my Grabber and says nice Shelby. He was dead serious too, and I said, yea I wish.
