I have been looking for some headers that will fit my 73 Mav Grabber. I have tried other headers but not enough clearence from the motor and the side of the engine comp. Also the linkage from the 3 speed on the column was in the way. Do I have to do special modifications to run headers or do I need to get a certain brand? I have the stock 302, guess I could have mentioned that before. Now there is a very strong probability that I have not been doing it right and thats my next question. Should most headers bolt on without any problems? Thanks for any help and if I have posted this in the wrong place sorry bout that.
The only time headers bolt on with no problems is while the engine is out of the car.You have to raise the engine up off its mounts to get the headers in a mav.The most popular headers are the Hooker #6901's.Most headers wont work with a column shift mav.Gotta go floor shift or cable set up(which you will have to fab )
Before my father gave me the Mav he had a floor shift installed, however it was done by linkage. Is this a safe and effective way to mount a floor shift? It just seems that when putting some throw on the shifter might cause linkage to break. However I have thought about putting a auto tranny instead of the 3-speed manual.
The only headers I know work with a stick trans are the 6901's I dont know about the other brands. The issue isnt with the floor mounted shifter linkage its with the clutch Z bar, some headers... the tubes hit the linkage or dont allow you to use mechanicle clutch linkage at all.The floor shift linkage should be fine.dude upgrade to a 4 spd or 5spd trans.Slush boxes are for drag racers and old people...LOL... I am sure I just offended someone (sorry) 4 speeds drop right in and 5 spds require a bit of work but it isnt impossible.Lots of people on here running T-5's and headers as well as 4 speeds and auotomatics. So its been done(alot) its just a matter of the right headers and the secret handshake to make it all work.
LOL yeah i agree with you. I like the sound of dropping a 4-speed manual. Now finding one will be the fun part lol. Thx for all your help.
