I am undecided as to what to do as far as building a motor. Lets say that I have $3,000 to spend I have a 302 roller block laying around. Parts I have all ready are Edelbrock Performer RPM heads 2.02- 1.60, crane gold roller rockers, rocker stud girdles, main stud girdle, Msd dizzy,Msd 6AL, Hooker 6901 headers, pioneer sfi harmonic balancer, 3000 stall convertor and race prepped c4, 9 inch rear end with 4.11 posi Basically the car will be a track car 1/4 mile weighing in at 2800 pounds but would like to retain some streetability out of it, gas mileage doesnt matter. Help me fill in the blanks on what to do to the block, what cam and what induction to use. I do have an old twisted torker manifold and a 650 and 750 Holley double pumper. I have all the stuff mentioned above on a stock bore 88 302 roller motor presently with an E cam and it runs 13.00s all day but have the need for more speed to run down the sand baggers that run the 12.80s and let off before end of quarter.
Havent decided yet, the blue 72 is too nice of a stock car to convert and doent have the wow factor of the Grabber but it sure would make a great sleeper. I guess I could throw the carbon fiber goodies on it and give it some wow factor as I still have the Grabber hood and spoiler to put back on Grabber. I guess I am dazed and confused call it a mid life crisis
Man if it runs good now dont screw it up. My car had a 306 in it drove it everywhere and won a ton of money with it. Went 347 lost most of the reliability and fun factor and dont win as many rounds. Dont get me wrong its real fun but was a way better car with less motor.
This is very true but only a true Mavericker can appreciate the beauty of a completely stock Maverick which is why I bought it in the first place so it will remain unmolested as far as appearance but when it does need a motor it will get a little boost in the hp department.
i can agree with that. i mean under hood goodies are never seen unless the owner wants them to be seen i share your idea, a completely stock look with some guts & glory underneath the hood but unseen to the naked eye
if your just wanting .2 more.....get a nitrous kit and put a 100 shot on it. That will net likely around .5 on a 13 second car and should be able to do that shot all day without any damage. If your wanting motor to do it, hmmmmm 331 with a little more compression. *Maybe something as simple as exhaust cut-outs (if your running mufflers). *Probably a little bit more timing will get you there. *Whens the last time you had the front end aligned? Lots of ET can be found with correct alignment. I could go on and on
Spray the guts out off it ! 1983 F-150 motor 200 shot plate system on a dual plane with a stock converter ....... I'm not even going to tell you how fast it goes !!!! 1985 T-bird 302 Vic JR. 300 shot on the fogger only mod was a E -303 cam and some new springs .....stupid fast .....
I know the spray would get me want I want but thats just another added expense, I race about 20 events in the summer and over time the cost of juicer would add up to more than building the motor. My 60 foot times suck with a 1.89 being good, I think if I can get that down it will help tremendously. Convertor seems tight as coming down return lane it locks up at 2,200 in 3rd. I am a stick guy and just learning about autos, my friends tell me I need more convertor cause the front end doesnt lift like it should, sway bar is disconnected. No tire spin, launch at as much as line lock will hold around 2500 before it pushes through. So maybe I am looking in the wrong place for better et. Shift at 6,200 and cross line at 6,200, tried all shift points and this seems to work the best. The motor ran 12.50s when I had it my 61 Falcon with a toploader in it, cars weighed about the same and geared the same. I guess maybe we will start with some induction modifications and try a Victor junior intake and a 650 Barry Grant dp, next step will be cam if I just dont decide to do a 347 stroker.
