I have a 64 fairlane with a 170 2.8 I6 with a Holley 1904 1 barrel I'm really getiing fustrated with the it. i cant seem to get the carb right. I adjusted the float to holley specs but it still spuges of gas and fluds ridiculously I know some of you guys a familiar with this. Can someone help me out? I need to know what the problem/problems is and what i need to do. thanx
the needles fine I checked it dry by blowing air threw it and flipping it upside down to see if it stops the it does cut of the flow.
you shouldnt flip an assembled carb upside down...it can cause the needle to jam up and not seat. Are you running a regular mechanicle pump or have you gone electric. Is the needle and seat new??? is there a burr/nick on the seat which will prevent the needle from sealing correctly??? gotta look close. If you are running an electric pump do you have a regulator in the system???
running stock mechanical fuel pump. Holley itself says to flip the carb upside down and set the float parralel to the fuel bowl. when i do this no air flows threw the needle cuz its closed simulating that the bowl is full when its upside down as i turn it over air starts to flow. I am thinking it a fuel pressure problem though. the carb has been recently rebuilt!
I cant help but think that a component has been left out causing fuel to flow through the carb when it shouldnt. If the float is set properly and the needle/seat are good.Fuel is getting past the jet or the accelerator pump. The carb should be able to cope with the stock pump pressure.does this carb have a holley style power valve in it??? Its been a long time since I dealt with a single barrel holley carb.If it does you may have the wrong gasket on the PV and fuel is getting past it...
You might want to try posting on the Ford carburetor forum and see what you can find there. http://www.network54.com/Forum/88781/
The floats still good. I took it off and submerged it in water, no bubbles, floated back to the top. I try that forum thanx! I believe alot of Mavs came with this carb so I figured you guys mite know!
You might also want to try the forum on www.classicinlines.com site. I believe there are some I6 guys there running that carb.
