I finally found a local leaf spring company and they said depending on what shape my leafs are in (I told him they are in good shape just need some added) I would be better off having them re-arched...... just exactly does that mean?
With time and wear your original springs tend to flatten out causing the rear of the car to sag. Having your springs re-arched means that they will be placed in a press and be bent to place the original curve back into them thus returning the rear of the car to the stock height. Sam
thanks, kinda makes sense ...... is it worth it or would I be better off just buying new ones? either way I need a forth leaf to accomitdate the tires and get rid of the shakles and air shocks
It depends... JC whitney has 4-leaf springs for your Maverick for $120.00 for the pair (plus shipping). I can't personally attest to the quality but I think many people here on the board have them. On the other hand if your local guy can do a custom job for you for a reasonable price, it might not be a bad idea. Remember that he does it for a living and can suggest things that you might not think of. Not only that but if you form a good relationship with your hometown merchant it can be a big help if you ever get in a situation where you break something or need something quickly. Good luck! Sam
squall go with www.springsandthings.com dont bother getting your springs rearched is a waste of time and money. alot of 4x4 owners around here had gotton their springs rearched to give the truck more lift and they only last about a year or so. what they dont tell you is when the springs are rearched they lose some of the "spring" effect and weakens the steel. plus for the price difference its not worth the hassle. springs and things match the springs in sets before you get them. im sure j.c. whitney doesnt even look twice at them
thanks for the input the reason I was looking local cause between shipping and exchange rate, its easier for me to get them Canadian made
Hey Squall.........when I first got my car done I was not happy with the way it sat in the back, so I took it to a local spring shop and they added a leaf and re-arched them, it ended up giving me heighth than I really wanted, but he said it would settle out some, well it has been done for eight years now and they have not dropped a bit. I think it only cost me like $30 per side. I would have it done again, but that is just me.
thinking I am gonna have them add a leaf and have them re-arched and in a year or so if it starts to fade I will just buy new ones and this will become a learning experience. Trial and error....
