Ok here's the deal. I found a 99 Mustang GT nearby, its a 4.6 with a 5speed, been in a accident but its the complete car for $1500 bux. Was'nt really planning on a 4.6 SOHC engine but this could almost get my car going. I can't decide if I should stick with rebuilding the 302 I got and the 5 speed or just getting this and swapping everything over. Its a 99 so it has the PI heads which are better. Stuff cost about the same as a SBF. I guess I should make this a poll :D. Comments welcome.

Note: I already have a mustang II suspension in the car...

the 4.6 would just add to the COOL FACTOR!

I know you have the skill to make the swap, its just a matter of whether you want to deal with it or not.

LANCE I just checked out those SOHC manifolds. Those are pretty sweet and $299.95 isn't bad either! Plus they look a heck of alot better than that ugly plastic stock manifold. I was just reading about the cam swap on sohc 4.6's lastnight and it doesnt look that difficult and the street cams made almost 390HP!

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
4.6s are dogs! looks impressive but for price forget it! i ran a supercharged one in my GTO he pulled two cars on the roll and then couldn't pull away. really sorry for a super charged motor vs a bolt on stock long block ls2! i would just to a stroked 302 to a 331. or if you wanted to be hated but haul butt! do the ls2 400 stock horsepower in a maverick instant low 12 sec car for 2/3 the cost of a 302! lol!

I agree with you in a lot of things but you can do a 4.6l on the cheap now....
as stated by Travis you can build a an almost 400 hp 4.6l for roughly the same as a 302.... or cheaper
and no offense but i ran all kinds of
"fast" chevies including a few GTOs and still pulled 5/6 car lengths on them with my little ole 306 roller....

maybe california air is better for chevies.....:rofl2:

    400 hp is 400 hp :D;)

I tell you what...you find me a wrecked 05 GTO w/6speed for $1500 i'll swap everything in the Mav in a heartbeat! Main reason Im considering this is buying the whole car for $1500. I can swap the engine, trans, radiator, brake system, interior if I wanted too blah blah blah u get the idea. What I dont want I can sell, its a freakin Mustang and people always buy Mustang stuff. So I can probably make half the money back selling the stuff I won't use.

I too love the LS2. I've driven a 6speed 06 GTO and absolutely love that car. But and LS2 setup is just way out of my price range right now seeing as I just bought a house!

I like 302's and have nothing against building it but they have just been done to death. I wanted something I little more modern yet affordable. Another plus would be that if I ever did want to step up to a DOHC Cobra engine the mounts would be the same. I'll just have to see if the guy hasnt sold the car before I can get up there to check it out this afternoon.

I voted for the cheap 4.6 swap since you already have the Mustang II front end swap done.

I think a super/turbocharger setup on a 5.0 would be cool in that. Mod motors are pretty pricey, my dad's 92' fox body has a VORTEC charger and a decent pair of TFS heads and it runs high 11's-low 12's and it weighs more than a mav so i think you could get a better bargin out of a 302. But with what you've got planned for your car a 4.6 would be a nice idea.

Man, if I could find a wrecked 99 GT, for 1500, I'd be all over it. I'm in the "thinking" stages of putting a 4.6 into my 74 Grabber. There was a good article in Car Craft this month, and I was looking at some cnc ported heads in Detroit..Nice stuff!!

As much as I personally dislike the 4.6 It seems 1,500 would be a good deal for everything you could need to do the swap.
