No that doesn't include flowers and lots of wine. I have a date stamp of 3J13 on the block. I am assuming it is a 1973 motor??? It's In my '73 body anyway. Can anyone help?

Look at the top of the block, just behind the manifold, there could be some numbers stamped it the metal, should be the same as your serial #, also on the bottom of the block there are casting numbers either on the starter side or the other, right up near the old pan.

If I remember how to read that correctly, 3J13 means the block was cast October 13, 1973.

That is correct. 3 is the year, J is the month (J being the 10th letter of the alphabet, so October) and 13 is the day.

The exact build date of your engine is also there if you know where to look. On the drivers side front of the engine, right where the head meets the block, there is a small rectangle area of the machined deck surface that extends out. It will have a code in the exact same format as the cast date, and is decoded the same way. For example, the 302 in my brother's '72 Grabber has a code of 1K29, so the engine was actually assembled on November 29, 1971, which corresponds with the car's 11/71 build date on the door tag.

I have been looking for 2 days for the stamp on my motor and I am not seeing it. The only number I could find are on a round inlet beside the oil pan on the drivers side but I am not sure what order they start in, but they are 57913. I did not see any around my starter like some has said unless you have to pull the starter to get to them. The only stamp near it has 73. Does anyone have a picture of where this stamp is suppose to be or can anyone be specific of its location.
