I have an 86 lincoln 302 with a factory roller cam. I have a distibutor for an 85 mustang Gt with a 302 5spd to get the steel gear. We have been trying to get the distributor to go in but it won't. We can't get it to mesh with the cam. We have tried turning the motor but it won't work. We have it on the 1 cylinder compression stroke. Any help would be appreciated

do you have the right oil pump drive shaft in?
the roller motors use a longer shaft on the distrubor that engages the oil pump drive shaft earlyer when droping the dizzy in. ive seen the arp oil pump shaft wich is round with the end ground hex not allow the dizzy go all the way down.

i have the factory shaft in. A points distributor will go right in but the 85 Gt distributor won't. It looks like since this is a factor roller it should have the right shaft.

I think if you mic. the female hex of the distibutors you will find a difference. I had to grind a little off a wyseco dist. to fit in my 86 block...good luck

come to think of it, i think i had to tap mine in with a rubber mallet. after that, it pulled right out and went right in. my thoughts, the new steel gear just needs to 'break in'
