Hello I was wondering what would be the best gear to run in my Maverick. It is a 77 with a 351w and a c6. I plan on porting and polishing the heads and intake, installing a bigger cam and maybe a stall converter. The rearend is an 8 inch. I want to do some good burnouts but be able to drive the car on the interstate without it taching up to 6000@80mph. can anyone help?! I also need to know what cam to put in it to have a healthy lope sound and still be able to run the automatic. Thanks

    Gears have been discussed alot.
IMO, the best "in-between" gears behind a c4 is 3.50'ish.
    I have had:
    4.86
    4.56
    4.11
and now 3.55......I can cruise the interstate at 70 mph under 3 grand. Of course tire size will also contribute to rpm's.

the 3.50s I got aren't enough gear for me. I would go a step higher. 3.70 - 3.89. Especially if you plan on running a tall tire.

I drove my 1972 Gran Torino Sport for 4 years with the stock 3.50 gear in the rear. I had no issues with it on the highway or city driving.

I plan on using that very same center section, that I saved from the Torino, in the Maverick's 9 inch.
